  1. Ok, how can this be achieved? 1. Joe starts a thread titled "molson ice beer is the best".... 2. Ben starts a thread titled "moson ice beer is the best".... Can this somehow be coded that duplicate titles merely get a numeral added Or an ajax warning message gets thrown to the op to re-title the thread? Becoming: "molson ice is the best" "molson ice is the best2"
  2. Well it seems we are going back to our original plan of forking mybb. It has a built in feature for seo too
  3. Yes, I understand about topic id numbers but why wouldn't you keep that in the database? Why does the id number need to jumble up the url ?
  4. Great site, very clean and simple.....i love that. Poor name. Anything with hell in it will turn people off, not that you meant to do that lol ! All I see is "kit" "hell"....doesn't matter if its kith-ell.....people see HELL. haha If you adjusted the url, i think you will do just fine. On a side note: removing friends When I first got on fb i would add every asshole I ever knew to my friends list......then I realized I didn't talk to them 20 years ago why start now? So I wanted to remove all my friends and start over. Well you can't ! You have to individually click the damn box on every single friend. Add an option to remove all friends
  5. In the planning stages of coding a bulletin board software and was wondering why all the "popular" software uses often confusing and ugly urls? Why give us an option for "pretty urls" if they know they are ugly? Are they coded like crap from the beginning and then they just give up on clean urls or is there a bonus to ugly urls that I do not see? Example: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=492786.0 https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=571070 http://community.mybb.com/thread-132481.html Why can't urls be like so: http://yoursite.com/forum-category/a-cool-post-title http://yoursite.com/support/help http://yoursite.com/marketplace/bad-behavior-plugin
  6. I'm still working on this although I am need of help and will post in the freelance section for offers. You can find the dev site here: www.arcbb.com It will be a fork of mybb with a full cms built around it utilizing the mybb permission system. Thanks for the help everyone!
  7. Some good points to take in ! I suppose I wanted to pick your brains to see what you wanted in a forum so I can get an idea first. I had this as a crude dev timeline: 1. Code base 2. Admin cp design / layout 3. User cp design / layout 4. Permissions 5. Groups 6. Portal design / layout 7. Portal misc. 8. Merge system / Installation wizard 9. Template system 10. Project website I know this is probably not the most professional outline but hey....it works for me. Should I have a different plan of attack or what?
  8. I think a points system and a thanking system could be combined? I also like the idea for a "reputation" system as well but use it solely based on content of threads? Ex: Points per post and thanks Rep for content and/or knowledge in posts or something
  9. I'm developing an open source forum software with a built in CMS....on par with Phpbb, SMF, VBulletin, IPB (but free) and want specific things in mind to be included. What are some things you would like to see in a forum software and some things you do not want included? Ex: cms system, thank you system, attachments, theme system, merge/import system etc..... I have a website though it is only a day old and no content and a sourceforge page. Can I post this project here and ask for volunteers or should I ask elsewhere? Note: Until we are an established company, I do not have the funding to pay developers
  10. Great ! Thank you for the ideas "E" I will def. take these into consideration!
  11. I guess I should of added this will be developed on: Mysql 5+ Linux web server Php (obviously)
