We've Upgraded to IP.Board v4.3 + Other Changes...

PHP Freaks has upgraded to IP.Board v4 again and I could use the feedback. If you have anything to say about it then head over to PHPFreaks.com Website Feedback and make a thread. Please keep it polite.

The upgrade process requires rebuilding a lot of data in the background and it is still running. Stuff like user history or site search will not work while this is ongoing, and those specifically are, unfortunately, at the bottom of the to-do list. (Google search is, of course, still quite effective.) This will take some time but the site is still functional. Please be patient.

edit: It appears to be finished, and I did some random checks and I do see stuff in search results, so I guess it's working?

edit: Search is messed up because our server ran out of disk space. I'm working on a solution but it's pretty slow going...

edit: Search should be fixed now. It's rebuilding the index (again) which will take a bit longer but now it should be working.

Assorted changes that might be added to over time as I remember them:

  1. The editor is now primarily WYSIWYG. BBCode is supported in a write-only way: you can type out most tags from before and they'll work, but the main focus is the toolbar. I don't like it either but that's the price of Progress™. Note that the Code thing is the <> icon and links are the chain/paperclip thing. Preview mode is on the far right.
  2. Signins are done through email address or display name. The old forum supported a separate signin name - that's gone. Email or display name. >99.9% of you won't care about this.
  3. There's a cookie disclaimer like most sites have that you're supposed to see and accept. Terms of Service and Guidelines are the previous big ToS page from www.phpfreaks.com. I didn't intend to move it like this but otherwise IPB does some awkward things. Personally I do prefer it this way.
  4. Two-factor authentication (2FA) is available. Note you don't have to use the Google Authenticator app specifically - anything that supports the standard 6-digit scheme and scan a QR code can use it. I assume.
  5. Threads older than 5 years are/will be archived and locked against posting. Death to necromancers! Making a new thread with a link is almost definitely always going to be better than reviving something that old anyways.
  6. I'm basically tweaking stuff as I go so you might notice small changes. Like I just removed the rounded corners from user avatars. Let me know if you have ideas for other stuff to change.
  7. Emails sent by the forum have been changed a bit. They're now sent from a new host (one that's better setup to do so) and from the @phpfreaks.com domain. I vaguely remember this being the case a while back, but then I changed it for some reason, but now it's back.
  8. Edited member ranks a bit (that's the thing that controls how many • you have).
