  1. Posts such as these do not need to be brought to the PHPFreaks boards.  The Freelance board is available for the private use, contracted or not, of each individual user.  PHPFreaks does not endorse its members, or any project found within the Freelance board.  Each member takes on jobs, and takes on workers, at their own risk, and it is up to each user to ensure that a written, binding contract is signed before any work or money is exchanged.  As such, you can say over and over that you agreed on a price for a job, but at the end of the day you did not have a written and signed contract, thus you will be unable to get your money back unless the said user decides to give it back.  Sadly, this happens more often than you would think, but without that contract you've just got to cut your loses and move on.

    That being said, this topic is locked, and any future topics in regards to being scammed through the Freelance will also be locked. There is nothing PHPFreaks can do to get your money.

  2. I'm currently enrolled in Programming I for this semester, and the required curriculum is Java language.  Naturally, my professor says it is the best language to program in, but mainly because it is universal.  From a few other sources I've heard that Java is not a very good language, but I've since second-guessed myself with the reason purchase of MySQL by Sun.  So, I was basically wondering if anyone has had any experience with Java and what you thought?  Should I put in the extra effort and really try to learn the language inside and out, or just do what is required to pass the course?  Surely there are other languages out there that can perform the same projects as Java, but are they any better?

    Thanks in advance.

  3. On the front page of youtube.com there is a small ad on the far right, scrolled down some. It is hard to see, you kinda gotta look for it, but if it is a google ad (i assume it is) and it is pay-per-impression, can you imagine how many people see that ad PER DAY?!  Just clicking around I can see ads on Youtube...their not very stand-outish but they exist. You have to actually be looking for them to find them...that might explain some of their profit.

    I see a large ad here, though: http://youtube.com/community

  4. wow! crayon! long time no see!  Gladd to see you back.

    On a more related notes, do you happen to have the restore cd with drivers?  drivers are optional, but I would just pop in the restore cd, format the comptuer, and go from there. It sounds to me like a system recovery has been made to reset his comptuer back to the exact date and time that a system recover was made, thus creating a loop.  I've seen this happen with our GeekSquad counter at Best Buy.  Pretty much we deemed the computer a lost hope, orderd restore cds from the manufacture, and just wiped the drive.

    C:\fdisk

    in essence :)

  5. Java can be ran from command line, and I thought basic PHP scripts could be too. Also, I know that ms-dos has use of the echo command...there might be other similar commands, such as loops and if statements, that are native to windows that can be ran from the command prompt.

  6. one thing is to get some free hosting and point a domain towards it.  dyndns allows you to point a domain to a subdomain, domain masking i think. so all you pay is the $9 sum odd dollars for the domain name for a year and just point it towards a free host.  then when the site is live, put a thing that says, Site for sale. Click here to learn more, and it takes them to a page with pricing and stuff like that. be sure to write up a contract and post on there in pdf format so they can see the contract before hand, and you will ensure payment this go round

  7. Admins can do everything.

    Global Mods can edit posts, delete posts, warn users, etc..Normal mod stuff.

    Super Mods can do all that a global mod can PLUS ban users, delete users, prune forums, add words to the ban word filter, etc.

    Moderators, which I don't think we have any, are per board basis. Meaning I might be the moderator for the PHP Help board. That means that I can edit, delete, and do basic moderation in the PHP Help board ONLY.

    Hope that helps.

  8. It doesn't necessarily have to be bad ideas, or laziness, red. I've seen people say, "Man i like this <insert software/site here> but i wish it had <insert feature(s) here>".  For example, i wouldn't mind a good PHP based client management system.  Manage my clients, send bills, have an upload place to upload files to sub directory that will show them what their live site will look like, etc.  Only problem is i'm so busy that i don't have to make it myself, so if someone else did that would be great! It would solve a lot of my problems.

  9. I would personally go with a BluRay player.  The quality of BluRay currently surpasses that of HD-DVD. At Best Buy we sell way more BluRay than HD-DVD.  Plus, I've even had a customer return their HD-DVD for a BluRay because they seen BluRay at a friends and liked the quality more than their HD-DVD.  Granted there will be others who swing the other way, but I can tell you that not only do our customers prefer it, but so do our employees...There are so many other reasons as well, but I would actually have to copy and paste all the posts about it from our cooperate forums in order to show you just how many people like BluRay over HD-DVD.

    On the other end of the argument, currently HD-DVD has more movies out than BluRay...such as transformers :(

  10. The first on my list is THE hardest thing to get in stores, but if your willing to pay over inflated pricing online you can get . . . the Wii.  Love it.  Want it. Can't afford the internet price.

    Well, I don't know how hard that is to get. Best Buy gets about 3 shipments of them per week, and I could easily get my hands on one. :)  Granted I work there, so I don't know how much harder it is for a normal customer.

    2. New car.  One that will ac... fit my little family and isn't a gas hog.

    You don't need a car. You'll only kill yourself.

    3. The Orange Box - X360 or PC don't care which.

    Ummm....The Orange Box isn't that good, IMO.

    4. More Legos.  Can never have enough.

    How old are you?

    5. HDTV set.  Pricey, but a reasonable request.

    Hmmm.......

    Last but not least, a better computer.  Mine is about to kick the bucket, but my wife doesn't believe it is time to upgrade.  We've only had it for 5 - 6 years.

    What is wrong with yours that you can't get new parts???

    So, it seems like you don't want much for christmas.  I hate people who want everything, or only want expensive shit.  I asked for a new watch, new pair of sunglasses, and this shirt that I seen in a store display.  Other than that, whatever my family chooses to get me is their own choice, and I don't want them to get me more.

  11. Well, we always get stray kittens, and end up feeding them, and then turning them into house cats.  We had four, but one got ran over.  Now we have three:

    Mignon (Or Kitter) Pronounced Me-non

    Hurley (Like the clothes/skate brand)

    Gizmo (Gizzy)

    Yeah, we love our cats. Granted I'm in college, three hours from home, and never get to see them. :(

  12. I started php when I was 13, and every since I have been addicted to the computer. I normally go on the computer for 12 hours straight for each day, going on 2 years straight. I get deppressioen, emptyness, blurry visions, and alot of other things that drives me to chaos in my brain.

    I think programming is fun, and makes me really happy to help others. I have made sites that really saved people's work,time, projects, and private stuff. PHP can be fun, but if you get addicted, it is really hard to quit. I would usually come back from school just thinking about php, and how i can have all day to work on my site. I have been failing and failing my classes, and my parents are complaining that i should quit computers.

    I once threw my harddrive in the dump, and the next day I was back on my computer with a new hard drive. I always find a way to come back to it. I have always wanted my own computer, but never got the chance to buy one. Now i have 3 laptops all with the latest specs, and running at amazing performance. I don't want them, but they are calling my name like "JOEY....JOEY....use me" lol.

    any comments on your experience?

    it sounds to me like you need to take that hard earned cash and see a doctor. Talk to one for an hour, see what he thinks, tell him why you sit in front of the computer, and see what he recommends.  If you feel better when you come out of the office, or think it might help, schedule another visit. Also, follow his advice.  Mainly, get out and do something. I LOVE PHP, but I also rock climb. So i balance it all out :)

  13. Prepare the meal

    or

    Do the dishes

    Prepare the meal, because then you know if it is poisoned or not.

    Best Buy

    or

    Circuit City

    Well, since I'm a hardcore best buy fan...and I'm a best buy employee, I'll go best buy. besides, circuit city sucks, all you get is gay mail in rebates, and there is no customer centricity.

  14. Ya english is a weird language, and coding should have additional packages to make it easier for people in a multilingual enviroment. like there sohuld be a PHP language function like:

    <?php

    php.lang(french);

    Étage ("50.2") // Produira 50

    Écho "Bonjour ma mère d'un autre dérange";

    ?>

    I think that would be kool. I would have posted an example in Tagalog but I had no idea what that was until about 5 mins ago. I dont even know how to speak the langiage let along translate it into php make-believe functions.

    seems like a great project for you to do.  Get the source code, go find yourself a forum that can help with the langauge that PHP Engine is written in, and make a french version of PHP
