    I'm glad it worked in your computer system. For ours, it seems that in the code about 8 lines up from the bottom that I needed to put position information in the <div>"id search" section -- not above. I'm infinitely curious why it worked for you without those instructions, but I guess the proof is in the pudding. Thank you very much! -- DrC

    I have installed a PHP/AJAX "instant search" (like Google) on our website. The results should appear immediately below the input box, but they appear way up and to the left. Using a document.getelementByID(name).style.position along with top and left have no effect on the result box location. Here's the details: Here's the problem in action: Enter an a into the search box at http://www.woofwoofwoof.org/is01/search.htm and you'll see the results up and to the left rather than just below the input box. The original search code on the w3school's site (located at http://www.w3schools..._livesearch.asp ) has worked well until I inserted into our web site; can anyone spot the problem? Here's our HTML-- I believe the problem lies in the relevant CSS, javascript or the inputbox lines.     Dear brthl, Not only are your suggestions working perfectly, but also the clarity of your writing is really good. I hope one of your jobs is writing textbooks or instructions! Everything worked when I used your ideas -- I even figured out how to make it work for the textarea. However, when I go to test the 5th content area (your question), I can't find a string name to represent what exists in the "your question" textarea. If I can get a name for the string itself so I can test for a length (say, <5), then I can require a question prior to "Submit" being successful.     I'm just learning about PHP and I'm diving in head first by attempting to modify our web site's contact form. I'm wishing to stop the form from erasing previously entered values upon "failed" data validation. It's of course going to be annoying to our visitors if their hardworked entries disappear just because they left out a name or entered an illegal email address. I regret that some potential solutions found on this forum and other locations on Google didn't seem to help on my page. As you can see, the validation is done with PHP's version of if-elseif-else. Later I'll be adding a reCAPTCHA and I hope that whatever I learn here might be useful for the potentially same problem when I am adding the CAPTCHA.     I'm just learning about PHP and I'm diving in head first by attempting to modify a gift of a web site design and code from two wonderful friends/coders/designers who are as busy as a one armed paper hanger. I'm wishing to stop the form from erasing values upon "failed" validation. Later I'll take a deep breath and try to figure out how to add reCAPTCHA. You can see that I tried to do what was suggested above in this thread under the "name" field -- but it unfortunately didn't appear do help out. Oh, well.) Please accept my apologies if I goofed either by 1) referring to the web page's view source rather than reproducing the code here, and 2) by replying to this post rather than starting a new thread. It appeared to me that the above posts relate directly to my question; if I did done wrong, please let me know so I can do betterer in the future. Thank you.
