URL vs cookie

HI, I am a newbie to PHP but I found it so far great(could be the reason that I am an oldie "C" programmer freak ;))Well Right now I am in a so kind of filosofical question. If I want to pass a session id to another page as a matter of control what procedure is more secure: passing by url or using a cookie?. Thanks for your opinions.
