  1. You know how annoying that would be? Especially if someone just posted on that blog to comment...
  2. Why are you using javascript for the rollovers. If I was able to notice the lag and then verify the use of javascript with firebug... that's an issue.
  3. The logo looks terrible. Out of curiosity, which theme is this?
  4. Your website is marked as malware on my school computer network.
  5. You're pretty much right on key. Are you developing a website portal that is unique? That hasn't yet been thought of?
  6. What you fail to realize is that the link you provided entirely contradicts your argument. That forum is v bulletin - not created by the webmaster and they seem to be doing really well.
  7. Awfully similar to gamespot. Not like its a bad thing, but that the first thing that came to mind. Especially the top navigation bar - it is nearly identical to the one on gamespots. I would def. consider making the controller more generic - the picture on the right. It currently looks like a playstation controller. I used to big a use playstation fan until I got hooked on Xbox live... either way, you don't want to offend users or make them think the website is for only one set of games. Gamespot has a logo approach and doesn't show such images. My 2 cents.
  8. Are you really that religious that you have to enclose my name in quotes? I'm not some nuclear bomb or tyrant that you have to put me in quotes. I'm a person. I'm a variable. Get me outta of there! Thanks for understanding $rhodry_korb.
  9. a resume should summarize your credentials - education, certification, your contact info, and your experience. If you are showcasing your projects on your resume - this is NOT a resume. 2 pages shouldn't hurt you though. My sister works in human resources and she doesn't penalize people for having a longer than usual resume, but she does in fact, prefer one page resumes. A rule of thumb: if you have a lot of stuff to write down - keep it short. If you don't have much to write - your bullshit a paragraph per achievement etc.
  10. I honestly find print screen and corel paint shop pro to crop images really fast and easy. i guess it depends on personal taste.
  11. Please don't double post. Overall, it's not too bad, but there is def. room for improvement. Way too much whitespace. Consider adding more images or text. I'm digging the logo, but the colors are going to be dificult to complement to the website. Consider changing the yellow text to a black. Text should always contrast heavily with the background color. There really isn't much content that I could critique. You should consider adding more content to the website. Hope that helps.
  12. Haha. It might seem like a noob question, but we have all been your shoes before. Godaddy.com will do the trick. I wouldn't recommend using their service once you want to put up the echelons to virtual dedicated or dedicated, but for now it shoudl suffice. Buy one of the shared hosting plans. They have an online ftp program you could use, or you could use filezilla. The reason I'm recommending godaddy.com is because they have a plethora of resources for new users. I had support walk over naming filenames to me.
  13. What about print screen? It takes a snapshot of your computer monitor. It even works if you're using a dual monitor setup like I'm using.

    Ajax?

Yes, it would require a lot of dedicated servers, but facebook already had the resources, even before it launched its chat feature. And I'm sure the effort was well worth too. Firing an ajax request every few seconds seems necessary. This is really the only way the server can track if a person is online. Most people don't bother logging off; they simply click the "x" on their browser.

    Ajax?

what about facebook chat? - Same idea. The webpage makes an ajax request every few seconds. If you have enough dedicated servers its not an issue. Remember, Meebo doesn't have to query its OWN servers. it queries the servers by AIM, Yahoo! chat, myspace, etc. to see if any new messages were posted.
  16. Things may have changed but I have always been able to track how each ad did. It was called something like a filter or tracker. It's been over a year since I used ad sense.
  17. <-- Snipped out a long rant --> My point of this long post: Reinventing the wheel takes dedication and research. Asking for suggestions on a forum is sign of immaturity and rash laziness. Stop bickering and log onto google and start research. 90% of development time should be taken up by research. If you really want to reinvent the wheel, shouldn't your product be better, faster, and degrade more elegantly than any other product on the web? How are you going to do this without analyzing code, editing code, and investigating why these products are the leaders in the market?
  18. I really like it. You have a very extensive portfolio and looking at your html/css I'm quite impressed. I do have a concern. The color schemes is more childish to me than professional. I know this is quite a heavy statement, but it's a little bit of a turn off. Maybe you can eliminate the rainbow, and make your name a professional logo? Just my 2 cents.
  19. Huge improvement. It would be really cool if you incorporated the blue color more into the design. Right now, the web design looks very monochromatic with different shades of black/white/gray. Maybe you can make the border that comes up when you hover over the images blue? That would be sleek. Or maybe you can make the headings bigger to extenuate the presence of the blue? And out of sheer curiosity - is that a picture of you in the favicon? ha ha. It's quite creative and ... a little bit unusual.
  20. this im sure you have seen, its yours from another thread. how was this constructive? I just read this. What the hell is your problem to quote me from another thread? You took the whole quote out of context. If you read the entire message, you would have seen that this it was constructive and entirely within context. I hope that no one else helps you on this forum.
  21. I love your semantics! Perfect. Visual design in question - your logo needs a little work. I second the dark text. It's a little hard to read. I"m not a big fan of the letter spacing you used on the <h3> headings. It is rather odd to see. Here's some other things: There is a horizontal scrollbar. You may consider indenting your paragraphs. The homepage doesn't have a title. Your web page looks fine on my resolution. But it's not the standard size of 1024 resolution. Keep that in mind, as the majority of web users still use 1024 or below.
  22. Dude I don't know what your issue is: Here is my full quote. That is entirely constructive. On the other hand what you said earlier is not. Full quote from several posts earlier:
  23. Woah man. I'm in high school but that statement is entirely uncalled for. I hope no one helps you with that type of attitude. The whole point of critique is for you consider my advice with a grain of salt. If you don't like it, don't use it. There is no reason to be immature and make comments like that. I never personally offended you. Everything was unbiased and rightly noted within the context.
  24. The website is very bland. Boring. There is not one picture. I don't count the logo or the gradients behind the links. I hate the scrollbar on the right side. This is really annoying for users, and should be avoided at all times. The HUGE sign in button wasn't anymore appealing. I recommend moving it to the top or making it slower. Now, off to my favorite part. Why are you declaring a bgcolor in the body tag through html? Images do not have alt attribute Main navigation links should have a title attribute Why are you using iframes???? There seems to be no particular reason. Where's the <h1> tag? <h2>? Oh and the "invisible div for loading" doesn't count as a good for <h2> since it's invisible. Do not use <br /> to create whitespace. That's basic semantic tip. Reading through a previous message you made on a thread earlier and your general responses in this thread warn me that you do not take feedback constructively. What I or anyone say in this website critique forum is for your benefit. Take our advice with a grain of salt. Evaluate our suggestions and if you think they are worthwhile, change your website. Otherwise, move on with your life and don't yell at me for trying to provide feedback for FREE.
  25. How was I expanding on your points? I mentioned <span class="bold_test"> because your explanation and suggestion was entirely flawed. I quote from: http://www.askdavetaylor.com/what_html_tag_to_use_b_or_strong.html You should not use <b> to bold text. This does nothing but make the text bold. This is not the purpose of bolding text!! You bold text to EMPHASIZE, and as such, you use the <strong> tag. Search engines have algorithums to rank these words more importantly. A designer could then easily use css to style the strong tag as he wishes, color, bold, underline, etc. The <b> tag doesn't add "emphasis;" it only adds a css style inline. Styling should never be done like this in the current designing era. Then you go on to say he should put everything in a list, enclosed wtih paragraphs? This isn't a good idea because SEMANTICS refer to the pure html. If we were to turn off ALL styling (inline and extrenal stylesheets) the browser should be able to display the infromation in an easy to read manner. Creating a list in this situation is overkilling semantics. The code would bloat up and the images in the list would make it look awkward without styling. This is how I would do it: <strong>Heading</strong> <img /> <p>Info</p> Better: <h2>Heading</strong> <img /> <p>Some info</p> BEST: <h2>heading</strong> <img /> <dl> <dt>Telephone:</dt> <dd>##-##-###-####</dd> </dl> I wouldn't call this "beating a dead horse." These are pointers and though it is up to the OP to decide whether or not he would like to implement these, this post may one day help other web developers in the future. Back to the website critique. Overall, the theme seems to work. I like the color blending. You should add padding to the footer, add a little bit of whitspace ont he homepage for the main links, and make the right toolbar expand (even when there is no content - faux columns).
