I am working on revising some code from a book I am studying on PHP5 and MySQL  - one piece isn't working - the part that lets a user reset their password. There are about four or five function calls involved so I have no idea at the moment where it is breaking down.  Is there a way to put it in a debug mode so I can step through line by line to see where it is messed up? ???

I am just looking for a simple way to test if my database is working. Wanted to get a listing of the contents of the user table from my bookmarks database but the code I am using generates the following errror message. I am trying to work through Welling/Thomson book on PHP/MySQL Web Development and am having trouble with the user authentication example. This listing works for me in PHP version 4, but not in version 5.  Check these two links out, they are the same identical code, only difference is the extension which directs it to which version of PHP to interpret it. The login information should be "user" and "pass" for the username and password, respectively. Got the mail working! Finally! Had to copy the php.ini to the c:\windows directory.  Don't understand why since I had the php5 directory in my system path - but now the mail works. 

Sigh! Not sure... I searched for php.ini  I only find one --- located here: c:/php5/php.ini C:/php5 is in my path as in: path= %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;C:\PHP5; and then other junk. I rebooted the system and started Apache.  I ran PHP INFO and get the output below - I do see in there it is looking for php.ini in the C:\windows - so maybe it isn't finding my ini file??  The latest recommendations were to keep the ini in the program file and add a path.  Any ideas from this on how to fix? Yep, I restarted Apache and am still getting the error.

I updated to run PHP 5.16 on Apache 2.0.54  - I have tested it and it is running, I get the right version using phpinfo() and it the php files load in the browser fine. BUT, I am having trouble with mail. I used to get the mail function to work under php 4 using the following in the PHP.ini file: [quote] [mail function] ; For Win32 only. I loaded mySQL 5 and am running Apache 2 and PHP 4.3.11 I tried to make a database connection using the mysqli  and it bombed. So I tried adding "extension=php_mysqli.dll" to the php.ini file But now I get an error that says: "Unknown (): Unable to load dynamic library './php_mysqli.dll' - The specified module could not be found." I looked where the dll's are located and I can't find it either.  What do I need to do to set this up right?

I tried to map a site to http://localhost/  to use TopStyle with PHP but instead of seeing the processed code in the preview, I see all the code itself. I am using Apache 2 and PHP 4.13 on a  WinXP Pro  machine. The PHP is working fine and when I preview from Dreamweaver MX I see the processed results, but I would like to be able to sometimes edit directly from TopStyle. I looked at the TopStyle help menus on mapping but I am totally baffled. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Maybe I should add - I am currently running Apache 2.0.54 with Win XP Pro and PHP 4.3.11 - it says the server API is CGI/Fast CGI. I would like to add PHP 5 to the system so I can work in both PHP 4.3 and PHP 5.  Do I need to upgrade Apache to do so? Does Apache 2.0.54 work with PHP 5 and vice versa? If I do need to update Apache, do you uninstall it first or just overwrite the installation? Thanks

Hi, Getting ready to update the versions of PHP, Apache, and MySQL I am using on my home system.  What is the best way to go, do I need to unistall the current versions before loading the new versions, or just overwrite them with the new versions.

So if you can do it with PHP is there a reason trying to learn to do it with SHTML Are there any situations where an SHTML include would be preferred to PHP - given your server can process both?

Is there a difference?  If you have access to php on your hosting site when and why would it make since to use an shtml include instead of a PHP include?

Having a problem here! Basically want to have a page that can only be accessed by authorized users. So I put the code below into the body of a php page to test. I am testing it on my localhost on my own machine. It works sort of, the problem I have is that the failed text shows up when the page opens. I downloaded a print spool file as an ascii text file. I need to go in and do some edit cleanup before I can do a layout for importing into a database. Unfortunately I can't find a word processor or text editor that can handle that size of a file. Anybody have any ideas? Tried that ... now I get a different error: LOAD DATA INFILE \'member.txt\' INTO TABLE member; ERROR 1105: File \'.sampdbmember.txt\' not found (Errcode: 2) Which I don\'t understand because the current directory is where the file is located. When I do a \"dir\" at the cmd prompt it returns: Directory of C:Documents and SettingsRLaneMy DocumentsActive Web SitesLocalhostsampdb and the listing of files shows the member.txt file. Are we getting closer?
