  1. Can't say I've ever been a big fan of Ebay for web-related things and yeah, it's probably a scam. There's also no such thing as "unlimited" when it comes to space and bandwith.
  2. Definitely looking forward to a new version of the site. PHPFreaks was a major part of me learning PHP, so I'm excited to see the results.
  3. Version 5 locally, have to use version 4 otherwise. :-/
  4. I never got angry (though when I used to be with crappy hosts, got mad with hours-days of downtime), but I definitely get stressed out if it's a substantial amount of time.

    hobby?

Definitely a mix of both. At the moment it's more for fun than anything else, but I'd like to get it to be more business.
  6. That's what I was thinking. That's actually a good idea to have one single "test" file, I normally will create a new file and sometimes with the prefix "test" or something relevant, but just a single test file...I have to do that now.
  7. Self Taught, which I never thought would happen. I mostly learned from looking at open source scripts and then occasionally tutorials (from here at phpfreaks :D) and php functions from php.net, of course help from people too when I couldn't figure out a problem with code.
  8. You mean the value of the username and password, how do I validate there info then? If I check that the URL is valid, is that a problem still and if so, why? (just curious) I'm a bit confused about this, what this does and why it's bad? Thank you.
  9. Yeah, I'm sorry about that. Hosting started having issues just about 5 minutes ago, I'll post here once it is working okay.
  10. http://www.iraqresearch.org I'm more interested in whether the CMS running it has security issues and if so, what they are. There are no direct links to it at the moment but to login it's /login.html and /register.html . Any problems found would be nice to know about, thank you.
  11. Sorry, when viewing a video. The related videos box. The padding just seems too much to me, but it's hard to say since you probably adjusted it quite a bit to get it right. If not I would lower the padding and see if it looks any better or not. EDIT: I saw the homepage, I definitely like the boxes like that better. Where the box header image doesn't have space to the left or right of it. Yeah that, on the homepage. (I see it's fixed, though you may want to try a white box BG just to see how it'd look)
  12. I'm 19, not married (I'd be in trouble if I was ;) ) and both born and live in Cincinnati, Ohio. I started doing website stuff at 13, from geocities and using 1st Page 2000 editor to making a forum and CMS script with PHP/MySQL. I am currently out of work, I was working at a high level job called Kroger Deli :P, I'm currently going for my GED to get into college. I play video games (have a XBOX 360) and love watching sports (ohio state buckeyes football/basketball, bengals nfl, reds mlb, UC football/basketball - favorite teams), TV, technology and am a very avid news follower/current events. About it. :)
  13. http://www.hostingzoom.com (main site) http://www.resellerzoom.com Good prices, excellent up-time, great support. My first "good" host I've really ever had in my 6 years of doing websites.
  14. First all but one person mentions my favorite edit program, EditPlus. Now, no one even mentions the great LeapFTP. Okay, it's nothing spectacular but I just like the easiness and it has the features I need, so never switched in the 6 years I've used it.
  15. Of course using flat file for news isn't a horrible idea and it could be the better option in a very small amount of occasions, but in general, using MySQL is frankly all-around better. Much easier, much much more advanced (in the way, that you can use MySQL for just about unlimited possibilities) and it is on a very high majority of hosts. I suppose I am just a tad biased.
  16. I agree, sorry for those that said they don't in the poll, I don't believe you. I could at minimum write an essay, if not a small book on all the mistakes I've made. From just missing a ; in a small page to mis-placing a } in a 1000+ line, forum script page. Everyone does from novice to know-it-all.
  17. I use it quite often actually, maybe more than I guess most do. I think it has a lot of uses, very useful function.
  18. I thought I was the only one. Unless a miracle happens ( ) I think I will always use EditPlus, so far I've used it probably 3 years now. Great and very underrated program.
  19. Yeah I definitely like the header and lack of color in that is "okay" if the rest is more lively, but it isn't. However it is tough to judge thoroughly since there is no content. But so far I can say for sure that more color is a must, to liven up the layout. Good point by AXiSS, regarding Times New Roman being used in the footer. A different font would be a good idea.
  20. Honestly It's "ok". It gets the job done and is of quality to advertise the site around, but I just don't think the quality is good enough to catch people's eyes. Now my problems with the site: 1. As said, the header image, the left part is scaled badly. And really the images used in the header are of low quality. Really hurts the overall design. 2. Also agree with the rest of the layout being to bland as well. I don't know how to describe it, but it's just "ehh". I think if the nav could be improved and the header looking nice, the overall layout would look good. Colors may need to be changed though. Hope this helps.
