Haven't been here in a while, but I want some critique on my recent design, you can view it here: http://freeflyin.com/beta
Tough Crit. is welcomed
Note: Home, register and login are the only done pages. And of course do not work, yet

I've been told the following things:
Logo isn't the best
The colors are boring
Please tell me what you think.

Dreamweaver 8 ftw!
[/quote]
I've used Dreamweaver before, why is it so popular? I fail to see the big deal about it...
[/quote]
its easier to create divs and stuff.
[/quote]
Doesn't really seem like a valid reason as almost every editor has that feature...
[/quote]
imo its easier to make, design, etc,. then other programs. -

I'm still learning php, but php is great imo when i run my sites.
I organize it very easily with the php include fuction.
I use switches on my site.
I love php
-
I usually give her a hug and a card. My dad just buys her stuff too...
-
whoa i love the first one.
Any plans to make the design code open source??? I would love some of those looks on my site
awesome job.
There's plenty of templates and tutorials to design such a look.
@OP: The second site needs some more colors and style. Looks like you're viewing your site on a black and white TV. It seems so plain and bland. Maybe implement an a better looking header then just h1 tags with white font, like the one in your first site.
thank you, right now I have stopped site devolpment until i find a new host =/
-
i've been looking at
-
I need a web host for $8 a month or lower with these specification:
atleast:
400gb bandwidth
10gb of diskspace
Cpanel + Cronjobs
optional, but I would like to have:
SSL certification
dedicated I.P
Thank you
-
Sounds more to me like you need a decent firewall. iptables rules.
I don't have a dedi, but if i get one in the future, i will need to code or or download something.
Do firewalls really block out BotNets, DDOS, and stuff like that?
-
Alright, one of these days I'm going to get a dedi, and I will need protection against DDOS'ers, BotNets, all that nasty crap. So, I would like to know, where to start.
I've picked C++ for my coding language, now where could i get started in learning how to make a well made socket listener? etc.,

i think the devshare site looks really nice good design, and a nice color scheme... about the portfolio i noticed that you've center aligned the footer text, while the rest is aligned to the left.. maybe try to atleast get the footertext centrated under the main part of your site?
other than that, i liked both designs, clean and easy to understand.. also the navigation on your portfolio was nice.. didn't expect the pink, but it looks great...
good job
thanks, right now I'm building the admin panel.
Only problem though, I need to switch webhosts =/, 1&1 dosen't like you creating your own mysql root admin =/.
Once that is switched, I'm gonna make a basic blog system and then ill make my shopping cart
-
Really nice clean design on the devshar, I dont think the bold is a problem myself. It stands out. If I made that design I would be proud.
The other site though the text is lacking design. Not any other pages to view either, but the principle is nice. Nice graphics. The text needs sorting though.
thank you, and yeah, my portfolio needs some work =/
-
i love bold font
-
Thanks for the feedback,
What would you suggest as a different color there? Perhaps a silver?
silver would be good and try a bit darker red, not to dark, but not to bright
-
^portfolio site...
Only the index page is made so far, sorry =/
-
thank you lol, never thought of that
-
The red and that lime green do not blend one bit, makes ugly, sorry =/.
It looks good below, its just the green and red and it would be an a pretty good site.
-
I do not know what its talking about?

Alright, it works fine now, but its echoing out the other variables =/, how can i stop this and make it only print out the $home when its home etc,.
-
I think you need to spend more time on the basics of php.
Play around a bit using this code:
print "<pre>"; var_dump($pages); print "</pre>";
That will show you the contents of any variable ($pages in this case). You should do the same for $currentpage, so you can see what you are comparing against.
This line:
$choice = ($page['url'] == $currentpage);
says "Compare $page['url'] and $currentpage. If they are equal, set $choice to true. Otherwise set it to false"
When you try to print out "true", that's when you see 1. Instead you should be printing something from $page, eg "echo $page['choice']" or "echo $page['url']"
Ill give that a try, and sorry, I've just started learning php..and kinda went head in =/
