  1. Hi, Please let me know what is the best overall CMS. I want one that I can customise fully and can integrate my own mysql and php bits and pieces into. Also, I want to allow a number of different users access the backend with different rights etc... I am finally ready to make the jump into this so want an objective idea of which is best. thanks in advance. Edkellett
  2. Hi, I ecently asked about the best free Blog for a website I am building. I was delighted to learn Wordpress and thanks for those who advised me... Mow I have two more requests: 1) I am looking for an open source free Forum that is really easy to install on an existing php mysql site. Ease of install and managing is important... like Wordpress It is for a corporate site so one that doesn't have banner ads or any garbage on it would be great... 2) In the same way I am looking for something similar for uploading Photo Galleries... something nice and stylish and that can handle large file sizes... any ideas? Thanks in advance... Ed Kellett
  3. thanks... seems like wordpress is the best...
  4. but do you know where I can get something that has a kinda explorer view of the users computer to select multiple files / pics? Ed
  5. Hi, I am looking for an open source free Blog that is really easy to install on an existing php mysql site. I am relatively new to this... a beginner so ease of install is essential... It is for a corporate site so one that doesn't have banner ads or any garbage on it would be great... Any ideas? Ed Kellett
  6. Hi, I currently have a php page that I use to upload photos... it works fine, but... How do I get a file browser for uploading photos or files that looks better, that looks like facebook's one for example... much more user friendly? Any ideas? Thanks in advance... Ed
  7. Can anyone please point me in the right direction. I am looking for a photo uploader tutorial that will take photos and reduce them in size, create two copies (one thumb and one larger version) and upload them to a specified directory and enter into mysql database. Something like what is in facebook would be great. Also, along the same line, can anyone tell me how I can design using mysql database and php (and maybe flash) so my photos open in a really nice gallery. The kind that resizes the photos and opens in front of the screen. Thanks a mill in advance...
  8. Thanks for your reply... The thing is the actual file doesn't exist... A bit more info on what I am doing so that you might be able to help... I am building a directory of businesses... people sign up and have a listing on the site... so far so good... but I would like to be able to give them their own URL... like myspace do (myspace.com/samplename)... For example someone signs up and their name automatically generates a URL that they can put on their business cards etc...like www.directory.net/samplename Do you get me? So scanning for folders in the site won't do it because there won't actually be a folder... when they type in www.directory.net/samplename I need a way that php takes the string 'samplename' and scans the database to find an entry in there that matches... and if it finds a match redirects to that detail page... Thanks so much for your help... Ed
  9. Hi, I would like to have a script that captures an extension after my domain URL and puts it in a variable which I can later use to redirect the page... For example... if someone types www.mydomain.com/johnsmith and there is no such folder as 'johnsmith', instead of displaying en error page, the script takes the string johnsmith and puts it in the variable $sample so I can match it off with a number of records in the database and then redirect, for example. I'm sure this exists somewhere so any help would be great... Cheeeeeeers in advance Ed Kellett
  10. I am being driven crazy by this... and it is probably a simple solution... I am desinging a site in PHP with MySQL DB... and using Dreamweaver for layout etc... I use includes a lot and want to know can I use absolute paths and how is this done. For example can I have an absolute path to the root of the web folder so that I can define the images/ folder and just put that in and know that whether I refer to it from the admin folder or from the root folder or a folder 3 levels deep it will still work... adn basically how do I do this in my local environment and also on the web... I am using IIS... so localhost... Anyone help?
