Does linux feature the ability to load HTML pages/snippets onto the desktop, like windows, where you could specify a page to load in a frame on the desktop?
  3. my workplace switcher in Fedora does not seem to allow me to add workspaces or change orientation in the GUI. Also, I'm using ccsm and I can't get the sphere to work. Could someone walk me through that?
  4. got it. works perfectly now.
  5. So how do I fix that, should I download the proprietary driver and itstall that?
  6. Okay, I'll try that. In the meantime, here's my xorg.config.new On the plus side, figuring out how to get it on a removable drive was a challenge, but after pounding away at it and a bit of manual reading, I now understand mounting and the basics of the fstab. 7. startx gives me: (EE) unable to locate/open configuration (EE) open /dev/fb0 no such file or directory (EE) no devices detected fatal server error - no screens found gdm says: GdmLocalDisplayFactory: maximum number of X display failures reached. I tried following the gentoo.org instructions for setting up X, and the only commands I could get to not throw an error were: source /etc/profile and X -configure. I then tested the new configure file X generated using: X -config /root/xorg.conf.new and a grey screen comes up, where it seems to lock
  8. results are: /lib/modules/2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia/nvidiafb.ko and ............/video/backlight/mbp_nvidia_bl.ko
  9. I ran lspci found nVidia GeForce 7150M VGA Compatible controller. what should I be piping through modprobe? I get tons of pages.
  10. when I run the install anaconda came up with a X not found error. When I ran startx, the no screens error came up. When I ran gdm, I get a "maximum number of X instance failures reached" type error. I hooked up ethernet and updated before this. my initid is 5. I have no /boot/menu.list
  11. Okay, I've tried a reinstall, put grub on the MBR, but it seems I don't have a GUI. I've tried running the "gdm" command, but I got a "no screens" error. My graphics chipset is GeForce 7150M, which I've read should worrk. Any reason why this or the actual installer won't default to GUI? HP Pavilion dv6500 AMD Athlon 64 X2 2GB RAM Nvidia GeForce 7150M I'm using the x86 DVD, forgot my CPU was actually 64-bit.
  12. I can only seem to enter the windows boot manager with the OS and the diagnostic thing. the other options I have are BIOS and Boot order.
  13. I've dual booted windows with fedora 10, but opted to install the GRUB loader on the fedora partition, and defaulted to loading windows. My problem is that I don't quite know how to load the fedora partition because it's going straight to windows.

    Remote Desktop

If I have tightVNC installed on my Windows machine and want to view my Linux desktop remotely, how would I go about it? I've already been able to do it on my local network, but what if I want to do it from another network? I have my network encrypted with WEP.
  15. I've read around that ATI cards aren't the best for Linux, but I've been trying to play some basic packaged 3D games, But I get a really crappy framerate. Anywhere from 0 - 15fps. I've installed the latest proprietary one (Released Sept 17 or something) and still to no avail. Some system specs: Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron ATI Radeon X1600 Pro ASUS SiS K7S41GX Motherboard 640MB RAM When this was running XP, I could run things like Doom 3 at med-High, NFS:MW med-high, Spore on Med-Low.
