  1. Wow, thanks for all the replies. The reason I hadn't upgraded is that I worked at a telecommunications place that required my system at home to still have IE 6 to be compatible with the system software. So when IE 7 first came out we were told to not upgrade. I no longer work there and I just never upgraded as I was never prompted to do so again until just recently. So I upgraded to IE 7 this morning. SemiApocalyptic, you had me worried! Luckily though, my website and the few sample website layouts at my site that I've made look just fine in IE 7 without any changes needed. I'm very new to the field and haven't done many projects. Thanks again for your opinions.
  2. A good book that I'm using for my PHP and MySQL class is called "PHP Programming with MySQL" by Don Gosselin. It doesn't seem to have many errors as I"ve been through the errata. It's also good for teaching someone who has little to no programming experience. It also features really useful programming exercises and programming case files at the end of a chapter that make you code your own scripts based off what you learned during that chapter. I'm not finished with it yet, but I seen no one mentioned, and I've found it good so far so I thought I would list it here. Andrew
  3. I was wondering what other web developers keep on their main testing computers? I have IE 6 installed and have been refusing the IE 7 upgrade. Mainly, I'm wanting to find out if I should upgrade to IE 7 or just stay with IE 6 for my web design. I currently design to make sure my sites look fine in Firefox, Safari windows, Opera, all current versions, and IE 6. Thanks for any help. Andrew
  4. I'm not sure exactly how to fix it but I thought I could test the site in a few browsers for you to let you know of other errors, it might help you trouble shoot: Windows browsers. firefox: drop down displays fine IE 6: the stores and contact links appear on a new line Opera: drop down appears almost fine, just the bg doesn't extend all the way to the right Safari windows: drop down works fine except you lose the blue background that was behind it.
  5. I agree with haku. I don't use php or javascript for browser detection on my website. It's just xhtml and css. It displays fine at 800x600 up to 1440 on my widescreen 17inch. I've tested it on my mothers 13inch laptop square screen and a 15 inch widescreen laptop at 1280x800. I have never tested it on anything bigger though, as I don't own anything bigger. So it might look like crap at a large resolution ??? It's not the best website, I imagine someone could code it better. But it seems to be quite resolution friendly and browser friendly at the moment without any browser detection for switching stylesheets.
  6. I've had trouble getting text to align properly inside of images when viewing them in firefox and IE as well. It's hard for me to mess with this since I don't have your submit button image. Your code seems fine. Have you ever tried using the: * {margin: 0; padding:0} selector before? This will set everything on your page to 0 though, p, h1, form, etc... But I find this helps a lot with browser padding and margin issues especially with aligning text inside of small images. Andrew
  7. I'm Andrew. I'm 25. I have just started my first php with mySQL college class, about 5 weeks into it now. Well, I live in Joshua Tree California. It's very hot here in the summer. The heat is so high here that the area almost always catches on fire during the summer. We always get fire smoke. About 2 years ago these wild fires were so close that we could actually see the flames that were dancing in the shadows off the top of a nearby mountain that is in our backyard. Quite scary. I joined this forum as a place to talk about php throughout my college course and future programming as well as communicate with others who share similar interests. I am a new web and graphic designer. I have only focused on front end design. So far learning what php can do sounds amazing, I can't wait until I can code my own scripts. I'm a very big music lover. I will listen to pretty much anything that sounds good. My favorite band is Tool. I also listen to Soilwork, Killswitch Engage, Tupac, Outcast, Nickleback, Avant, Nirvana, Flyleaf, Aaliyah and many others on a daily basis. Life would be horrible without music! Nice to meet you all. Andrew
