  1. You people know being drunk is unhealthy and will reduce life expentancy?  :intoxicated: :intoxicated: :intoxicated: :intoxicated:

    It's well worth it.  ;)

Possibly...Some people think (And I agree) having 2 monitors to code with is much more effective than 1...Some even say as much as 2 times! And how many monitors will you get when drunk?  :P

  2. I wish to install 9.10 Ubuntu server, but I'm having difficulties on getting to that point.

I do not have any USB related objects (Besides a mouse but that doesn't matter), no cd-writer, and of course no Ubuntu CD and I do not wish to wait 6 weeks to get one. (Or pay any money for that matter.) All guides want a USB or a CD it seems.  :-[

I do have a floppy drive that can read AND write, as well as two HDDs. I don't know if you could like boot off another HDD like its a .iso or something. Thanks.

EDIT: I realize there is a topic similar to mine, but Daniel said just use a different computer and install it through there and then move the HD back which doesn't work for me as I can't get one to install on any of the machines I have.

  3. They dont understand a f'in thing about the internet. ::)

Tell me a single thing they do understand, besides how to make bad matters, worse.

the most effective way to waste tax money?

Taxing is a bad matter, and by wasting it, it only makes it worse.  ;)

  4. I hate turkey.  My family rarely ever eats turkey for thanksgiving.  I love the smell of a freshly baked/roasted turkey but it's just so damned dry no matter what you do.

Whoever is cooking your turkey must not be a chef. Whenever I eat turkey, its never dry. Although I can't tell you what is the reason of this as I'm not the one making the turkey.

Just look at it like coding. If you get some amateur to cook or program something, it always comes out bad or heck anything for that matter. A professional always does better than the novice.

  5. But I remember many a times Where I fell through the wall/floor in halo. One time I fell through the sky... that was weird

Only sucky games do that, hey what a surprise, halo! ;)

Anyways, lets not get off topic!

I don't really pay much attention to anything that doesn't make sense to me. Personally, I don't really understand any of those theories so I just let them be. :)

  6. The 1st post of this thread (2006) really the shows the times then.  Back then mysql + PHP was hard to find specially in free hosting mysql was almost impossible to find, I even remember some "Free mysql" hosts popping up at those times.

Today its common, in fact every web host has it, even free hosts. So saying "Here are some web hosts that have php + mysql" really sounds stupid in today's context!? :P

I have atleast 3 recorded free web host providers with no banners*, MySQL and PHP from 2006. If thats not enough, when I was looking for a free one back 3 years ago, there was a top 250 or maybe 100 list of PHP/MySQL free web hosts.

Although I must say the freehosting has been much more effective since 2006.

*2 out of 3 of them had no banners. The one that did have banners died out 2 years ago.

  7. I most likely will be using a Linux OS soon and might as well find out which is the best OS for my system.

    CPU: 2.12ghz intel 32 bit.

Video card: 9200 ATI (Although GPU shouldn't matter at all)

    RAM: DDR2 1 GB

Motherboard has some issues with bios memory, meaning it forgets alot which hopefully won't matter for a linux OS.

The computer will be used only as a website server, possibly up to 100 requests (Or whatever its called when someone refreshes on a webpage) a second. These statistics are based on my current Vista OS. I assume I'll be getting higher results in a Linux OS.

I have absolutely no experience whatsoever with a Linux OS and I also have little to no experience with a command prompt (Used DOSBOX a few times to run old DOS games), but I'm not exactly incapable of learning but at the same time I don't want to spend a week setting it up.

Also the OS must be able to run MySQL/PHP but from what I understand they all should be able to support it. This could be a stupid question but preferably an OS that can run MySQL 5.0.3 or later and PHP 5.0 or later. As well I would prefer it to be able to run Apache while being in a log-in screen as like what a Windows OS can do.

So mostly an OS that doesn't have any issues with my hardware and an OS that is effective yet not too complicated.

Although I don't even have to necessarily use a Linux OS and could stick with MS as I have like every single piece of software they ever made in the last 3 years, but PHP/MySQL is native to Linux so I would assume it would run more effective.

  8. Hi, looked at a couple of introduction notes and they are just too awesome. Mine will not be one of those. I'll say, "I Hope I'll never regret joining you".

    Regards,

    EDMUND OCHIENG.  O0

Welcome to phpfreaks, edmund. So long as you don't take a stick and poke the mods or admins in their cages, I'm sure you won't regret joining the forums.  :)

As you should notice he said mods or admins, but people like nrg_alpha who is just a recommended means you can poke as much as you feel like.  :)

  9. The major downside however is the limited bandwidth you get (it's only 5 GB per month).

Right now the game allows for a maximum of 200 players (due to bandwidth), but i'm looking to expand my game.

Is that a joke? 200 people at 5GB for bandwidth? Even with a maximum, so less than 200, I can't see it being active with more than (At 1 page refresh every 1 second with each page being 1KB which is very generous to give you but made up by 1 page click a second): 2 people.  Here I'll show you my math.

    5 * 1024 * 1024 (5 gigabytes to kilobytes) / 2592000 (Time in a month) =  2

This of course is assuming they are on 24/7, but 2 people VS 200...Erm...

  10. 16 GB available disk space (32-bit)  [/quote

Wow, that OS is a fourth of my entire HD size!

Anyways, XP is still the most common used OS so I was going by those statistics. For most people the basic version of XP will work and so that extra 100$ will do everything that person wants but sure I didn't realize how much they were charging for Windows 7.

I agree with Rooperts post about what OS is best for who.

  11.

I would switch to a Mac, but I freaking hate having a single mouse click and I hate the trendy ness of it. I mean come on $2,500 for a computer I can get for $800 with Windows or $500 with Linux....seriously. Just buy a Windows PC and put the Mac OS X on it and be happy :)

Exactly how is Windows 800$ while Linux is 500$? You can get a MS OS under 100$ and they use the same hardware so where does this other 200$ come from?
