  1. Greetings, I categorize myself as a hack scripter. Hack as in "a writer who is paid to write low-quality, quickly put-together articles or books." I know enough about javascript, perl and php to modify scripts I am already using (most of the time) and do simple little things but I would like to learn to do more. I am more proficient in HTML and shell scripting I would like some advice about which books or tutorials would get me going on a project I am wanting to do. First of all I am wanting to do a customer database. This is pretty straight forward and I think I can take the knowledge I already have and do this in an afternoon and evening. THEN, and this is were I need to add to my skills, I want to make a "service request" database that will let me record requests from clients (that will be in or need to be added to the customer database) that will let me track their day of arrival and departure and what they are requesting. How to tie the customer database into this second requirement is what I need to learn. I know php & MySQL will this, I am just unfamiliar with how I can do this. I am looking for a good book or tutorial that will take me through this. Any Suggestions? Paul
