  1. Thanks for all the help guys I decided to change it to Geedo.com
  2. Hi, I am having troubles deciding wheter I like the name of my website Gedoo.com. I have registered a similar domain Geedo.com as well and wonder if I shuld change it into that. But I dont know... What do you think I shuld do? I really need your help here guys :/ 1. Keep Gedoo.com 2. Change to Geedo.com 3. Both sucks for a search engine find a new one! (Please let me know if you know any names that would be perfect because all the domains are taken) Thanks guys
  3. Hi jlynn628 I am really glad that you find Gedoo interessing and useful Hopefully you will be using it in the future as well. The reason why I am not showing results from other search engines directly into Gedoo Search is because not all sites allow this.. In fact only a small percentage do. I might do it for the biggest sites in the future but right now it makes more sense to just redirect. Why you see other results from Gedoo then is you type it in directly on the site I have no idea why. :/ I will look into that. What site(s) exactly are you experiencing that on btw? Also about the left hand menu, I am working on a "Get more search engines" autosuggestion tool where you can type in the name of the search engine you want to search in similar to the one on index Thanks
  4. ya but i'm assuming all the sites you're listing on the left column there are the big ones that have API's. and while its meant to be a start page, it should use as much AJAX as possible... to me, at least, the best scenario of the one i listed would be to click on "ebay", ajax loads the results in a good looking results page, and i click on that one i want to research further and it takes me to that particular page. Idk, just my preferences. Maybe give users a chance to choose? I understand what you mean The search engines listed on index.php is the most popular for your country. I will take your suggestion into concideration later on Thanks alot
  5. Well eBay has API but all sites dont.. Gedoo has over 9000 different search engines.. Plus the idea behind Gedoo is that you can use it as a startpage and easily search in any page you wish straight from the startpage
  6. Some exiting new features on Gedoo now it has a new design as you can see.. You now get a list of your last used search engines so you can make repeated searches faster. You can also type directly the name of the search engine you want to search in with the term and it will auto-detect that search engine. For example if you type "youtube music" and click enter you will search for music in youtube. Gedoo also has alot more search engines to search in (over 9000 actually!) and new ones are added every day! Hope you enjoy it and please give me feedback and input on how to make it better
  7. Hi there Im just wondering how I can prevent the query from outputing the same name twice in a query? Example: If I query and it outputs: Name- Age- Location- Roger 23 New York Eric 29 Miami Eric 48 Boston Is there a way to make it recognize that it already outputed "Eric" then make it skip the next eric so it just outputs: Name- Age- Location- Roger 23 New York Eric 29 Miami ? Thanks alot guys
  8. Hi there I am having trouble with Google Adsense for Search.. http://www.gedoo.com/search/s.php?cx=partner-pub-4107615830672005%3Akg7gab-62n3&cof=FORID%3A9&ie=UTF-8&q=php&sa=Søk The problem is that the Google javascript is making a HUGE gap at the bottom of the search results... Making it look ugly and unprofessional Anybody faced the same problem and mabye came up with a solution? Here is the code: <div id="cse-search-results"></div> <script type='text/javascript'> var googleSearchIframeName = 'cse-search-results'; var googleSearchFormName = 'cse-search-box'; var googleSearchFrameWidth = 795; var googleSearchFrameHeight = 80; var googleSearchDomain = 'www.google.no'; var googleSearchPath = '/cse'; </script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.google.com/afsonline/show_afs_search.js"></script> Thanks
  9. It would, every user has a locale setting (not saying this is entirely reliable but it will give you an idea of what languages the user can speak). Yes I have that feature on my site... Only for countries though... not for areas in a country. It would look for Kings of Leon on YouTube, MusicSearch, and Lyrical. Yes I get your point but what if I want to search for "lyrical kings of leon" at YouTube and MusicSearch? How would the script know? becuase it would be the same search string ... "youtube musicsearch lyrical kings of leon" I like your suggestions, its just a few complications .. I will have a look at it...
  10. Thanks for your input! One of the features that gives the user what he wants fast is the function that if you enter a URL it takes u directly there instead of via Google.. Its a small feature, but I use it ALOT! Anyways, the reason I didnt do top 10 search results from Google, Bing and Yahoo is because there is already many, many meta search engines out there... Plus Gedoo.com is not a search engine, its a start page. And Google is the most used search engine so I found it logic to use that as standard.. Users can choose any search engine as theire primary search engine (clicking "make primary" next to the search engine).. The thing about simply writing "youtube madonna" was actually a feature on Gedoo at the beginning... The reason I changed it was because when I got more and more search engines in the database it got mixed up.. Here is how; a country like Belgium for example has 3 languages (Dutch French and German) and Gedoo.com offers Google (or yahoo, bing or whatever) in all those languages.. Now if a guy from Belgium would write "google madonna" then the script wouldnt know what google to search in... I notcied that it just selected the first Google it found which could be Japanese or whatever... Therefor I had to make sure the user selected it by id and not name... But I agree that this is a better and faster method of searching other sites so I will think about it and hopefully come up with a solution.. if you have any ideas please let me know Your last idea is also interesting... But the problem would be if you enter "youtube musicsearch lyrical kings of leon" how would the script know what you are searching for and where? are you searching for "musicsearch lyrical kings of leon" at youtube? Or are you searching for "lyrical kings of leon"? A solution to this as I see it would be the same selection procedure.. that you have to select manually multiple search engines... It might work I will have a look at it.. If you have any suggestions to other ways of doing it it would be great I will anyways give your suggestions some thought and see what I want to add to my site.. Thanks alot for your time and input
  11. Hi, http://www.gedoo.com I've been working on this website for a couple of months now and need your input Please let me know what you like about my website, what you dont understand, what you hate and features I can add/make better I would really love for you to set Gedoo.com as your homepage for a couple of days just to try it out and see how easy it is to use Here is a lil description: Gedoo.com is a startpage where you can search in over 3000 (more is added daily) search engines from the same page. It includes search engines from many different countries and languages. You will only be able to see search engines in your language and english. If you just enter a search term it will automatically search in Google from your country. If you are from United Kingdom it will search in Google.co.uk, if you are from Canada it will search in Google.ca, ect. You can set any search engine you wish as your primary search engine. If you want eBay to be your primary search engine you just enter ebay and click on «Make primary» on the drop-down. Another smart feature is that you can enter urls directly into the search field. If you enter flickr.com in the search field it will automatically go to http://www.flickr.com. If you enter «you» in the search field you will see that «YouTube» shows as a suggestion. Click on YouTube, type in your search term and click enter and you will see that it searches in YouTube. Same goes for every other search engine in the database. You can also personalize Gedoo.com with background images. Go to http://www.gedoo.com/background/ and see all the backgrounds we offer. Gedoo.com features over 100 beautiful background images. Thanks for your time NOTE: For Opera users there is a tiny bug that makes it search in Google when you go down to select a search engine and click enter ... I am working to fix this... In the meanwhile you can just click on the search engine with the mouse and it will work fine
  12. Hi, I am a javascript newbie and wonders how to do this: I want to change this: .buttons a, .buttons button{ background-color:#f5f5f5; to this .buttons a, .buttons button{ background-color:#000000; when enter is clicked when the form field is focued (to make it behave like a button). Anyone knows how to do this? This is the code for the button BTW: <div class="buttons"> <a href="#" onclick="this.blur();parent.document.forms[0].submit();">Search </a></div></form>
  13. Solved it with AND blocked NOT LIKE '%no%' Thanks
  14. Hi ! I am trying this code: $query = "SELECT * FROM `table` WHERE name LIKE '%$keyword%' AND blocked != '%no%' ORDER BY hits DESC LIMIT 10 "; The 'blocked' row has the following value: "se dk no uk es" Now, what I want it to do is to NOT include that row IF it finds "no" in the blocked row... The problem is that it dont block it :/ It works if I dont use wildcard characters and the 'blocked' row = 'no' but I want to have multiple values in that row... Thanks in advance
