hi, i am new to php. just wrote a visitor counter ,but when it runs, on the bottom of the page it says

"Warning: Unknown: Your script possibly relies on a session side-effect which existed until PHP 4.2.3. Please be advised that the session extension does not consider global variables as a source of data, unless register_globals is enabled. You can disable this functionality and this warning by setting session.bug_compat_42 or session.bug_compat_warn to off, respectively. in Unknown on line 0"

how to solve this?? please help, thank you.

you could try a hit couter by simply writing to and from a text file.

I mean when the page loads, open the hitcounter text file in php. Take the current value, add 1, then write back to the file and display.

easy as...done!
