php redirects

Hi I have a question about a redirect on my index page.

This is the result from using meta tag checker....

Note! This site does NOT provide the robots.txt file or the robots.txt file is not constructed properly. It is recommended all sites provide this file. For more information on how to properly construct and use the robots.txt file consider becoming a member.

WARNING! The URL you entered was redirected to:

[a href=\"http://barrie101.com/Default.php\" target=\"_blank\"]http://barrie101.com/Default.php[/a]

It is recommended you use the above URL when submitting to SEARCH ENGINES

my htaccess file is DirectoryIndex default.php index.php

Will this cause a problem with search engines, Google in particular, having default.php being my opeining page with a redirect? Any input on this is welcome. Home page is [a href=\"http://barrie101.com\" target=\"_blank\"]http://barrie101.com[/a]

Thank you,

Fix Johnson

how about just writing that robots.txt instead of it redirecting to a html page? :)
just leave it blank, it'll get you into trouble if google gets a full coded page instead of robots.txt (404 instead of txt file)

I understand about writing the robots.txt file. Not sure about the redirect part. My concern was the htaccess redirect

DirectoryIndex default.php index.php

Did you mean for me to put my redirect in my robots.txt file or am I missing something else that you meant

I am a NEWBIE so things have to be pretty well laid out for me to follow...hehehe

Thanks for your reply,

Write a sensible robots.txt file. It has nothing to do with .htaccess

Create a new page called 404.php which is where 'errors' will go - simple stuff, i.e. We could not find the page you requested. Please make another selection from the menu above/at left/at right blah blah blah

Change the .htaccess file to
ErrorDocument 404 http://www.barrie101.com/404.php
DirectoryIndex index.php
