acidglitter
my guestbook has been getting SO MUCH spam these last few days! its getting depressing. like right now it blocks certain IP addresses and words (words like casino, poker, ect) but its not enough. they just get new words or ip addresses! what can i do to stop this? i don't think putting a time limit or whatever would help because its not a bunch of posts in a few minutes. its usually a new one after every few hours>:(
mmosel
Maybe it's time for a captcha?Either that, or create your own question answer system that stops the bots.
hitman6003
The simplest method is probably to use a captcha. Captchas are those images that have distorted letters and numbers in them where the user is required to enter in the text to continue. This forces an actual person to be doing the posting, which should eliminate most of your spamming.Edit: mmosel beat me to it
jcbarr
I have one of those installed and I still get the stuff. Most forums have an option for administrators to validate each new account. I know that stinks, but sometimes you have to do things like that.
redarrow
what you can do is valadate the posts via the user goto activate via there email and a link to update the database if the condition is yes then show that post.
corbin
You could use cookies or a database to track users posting... I wouldnt use cookies alone though since they could just clear their cookies...
