trq
Buy a book. Or better still, read this from start to finnish.

SephirGaine
A week probably won't get you too far. I've been dealing with PHP (or trying to) for about 2-3 months now, and I'm still getting stumped on the easiest things. For the most part it's been trial by fire for me, however these forums have helped me immensly so far in developing my PHP skills. Look up some basic tutorials, create some basic scripts, and then plan out what you want to do with PHP. Try to do whatever you can by yourself, and if you become hopelessly stuck or confused somewhere, feel free to ask. It's worked thus far for me.. and though I'm still moving my site along at a snail's pace, I'm learning PHP as I go and each time I create a script I get less, and more minor problems because of it. hostfreak
Ah, I am over by Punta Gorda. Well, best thing I can recommend is what other people have already said. Just start making scripts from tutorials, take bits and pieces of different tutorials to make something. If you have trouble, post here for help. ToonMariner
I started here about 4 years ago http://www.sitepoint.com/article/getting-started-mysql within a couple of days I was creating, inserting deleting stuff in my database via php scripts and user inouts from forms. The best way to learn is to do things yourself - build on things you have learnt - try to find thinsg in the manual (most have user submitted examples) - ask questions on here.Someone once wrote something like:PHP taught = 1 sitePHP learned = 1,000,

angelb0y
I Found a good place a while back, these video tutorials are not pro stuff but are excellent to start with. it teaches you the basics so that the books are easier to absorb later....http://3dbuzz.com/vbforum/sv_dl_tr.phpAngel
