Make your site using a new word that no one has ever used. For example, make a site about 'oxygarphmicalisys'. Then put that word in your site a whole bunch of times, and maybe use it in the URL as well. Then go to two or three other sites, and make posts linking to your site, and make sure the link includes the word 'oxygarphmicalisys'. Then, after a week or two, whenever anyone searches for the word 'oxygarphmicalisys', you will be on page one!

Add meta tags, meta description in your header of every file which you want indexed on your site.

Also add tag clouds depending on the concept of your site.

Make sure in your meta description and tags that you include your sites name/title.

You can also link exchange, or post on other sites to advertise it.

To get to first page is every new ecommerce practicer’s ultimate goal, because it could guarantee limited investment for unlimited customers’ attention, here I suggest you to focus on:

1) Confirm core keywords and related keywords 3-5

2) check if the homepage’s title, meta, description has those 3-5 keywords

3) To add new webpages related to these keywrods

4) Add external links for those keywords

Just my opioion

I've noticed that one of the Main changes you can make to your webpage to have a higher page rank on google is to have a really good TITLE tag.  As soon as i changed mine I noticed dramatic increase when searching things relevant to my site

so instead of just putting as the title "<title>Passionsong.org | Home</title>", which wasn't helping google, I added a better title like "<title>PassionSong | Inspiring and Connecting Lives Through Gospel Artistry</title>

Seriously this helps!

I can't believe 8 replies and not one mention of the obvious: be the highest bidder for keywords you choose, on the major search engines (google, yahoo/msn, etc...).  Why do you think those ads on the top and sides stand out?  People bid on keywords.  The more common the keyword/phrase, the higher people bid on it.  Ebay for keywords.  How do you think search engines make money?  Dude, you can go the route others suggest and try to rank on the organic SERPs, but at best, that's like trying to ski uphill.

Picking "unique" words will get you indexed on page 1 SERP fairly quickly but what's the point? Nobody searches for that stuff.

asad, perhaps investing in a good seo book or looking up some seo tutorials (as you spend more time educating yourself, you'll get a sense of what is correct and what is garbage out there).

As for the metatag keywords, I wouldn't bother.. it has been abused way too much in the past (people stuffing the keywords meta tag with high ranking, yet irrelevant key words.. search engines picked up on this and thus it is pretty much an useless tag overall).
