Help with curl.

Hi. I am new to PHP and im having a bit of trouble with a curl function.

What I want to happen is have my whois.php script call a script on another server which processes the request and returns variables.

I have got it working (sort of) The whois.php is getting to the other server and the results are being returned but I can not get to the variables returned unless I print the page.
I do not want to have the page printed because it is printing the values on the page and my script later takes the variables and displays them in a table.

Here's a sample of the code that I have :

function getCurlPage ($pageSpec)
{
$ch = curl_init ($pageSpec);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION, 1);

$tmp = curl_exec ($ch);
curl_close ($ch);
$tmp = preg_replace('/(?s)<meta http-equiv="Expires"[^>]*>/i', '', $tmp);
return $tmp;
}

$output = getCurlPage($url);
print("<br> The output is: " . $output);

Any ideas how i can do this without having the body of the retuned page printed and only keep the post data??
