how to load data dynamically in a combo(select)

i have three combo (<select>). now when user selects an item from 1st select, the relevant data will be enlisted into 2nd select depending upon the option has been choosen in 1st select. and the same process for third select.
can anyone give me any idea how to accomplish that?

That would be JavaScript.

... or PHP if you submit the form after each selection and repopulate the selects depending on what is already selected

... or a combination of javscript and php using AJAX

If you are still using mysql_ functions, STOP! Use mysqli_ or PDO. The longer you leave it the more you will have to rewrite.
