What about having a JS thing, where it shows like "A total of 10 people have been active in this thread" and then click to show who.

after the changes made to the new one, i switched my vote from old to new

The old one had some sort of.. 'raw' ness to it. It was a bit clunky and looked like it's been around forever, I kinda liked it and got used to it. This one is just more modernized, not as indistinguishable from other ones. Although the only thing to do, is move forward, so it indeed is a good move..

I prefer them as they are, simpler. Hate going to new forums and just being confused by what the icons are supposed to mean.

I can name myself a little bit conservative so I usually don't like any changes in design which I've been familiar to, but this time I find it more attractive, so the changes are rather positive than not.
