good books?

Recommended Posts

Anyone know of good books/tutorials for a total newbie (with little kids and pets, therefore very little time). I have a dreamweaver template but need to make it work. Need scripts for login section, creating forums, blogs etc. From the posts it appears that mysql is easier for newbies?
Would appreciate if some one can provide some guidance here.
Thanks.

I'm a newbie like you.  I've just started Foundation PHP for Dreamweaver 8 by David Powers.  I'm really getting into it.  It's got a top rating at Amazon, and so far I agree.  Very user-friendly.  If you want a book, I think this is the one to get.

due to the nature of dreamweaver, i'd probably try and discourage you from getting a dreamweaver specific book, and go for a PHP/MySQL one instead. All dreamweaver requires to learn it is a day of playing around with it and experimenting. here's another topic about good books:

Luke Welling/Laura Thompson's "PHP and MySQL Web Development" is one i'd seriously recommend, as it manages to get to the jugular very well and is suited to noobs and intermediate coders without being either patronising OR too complex.

cheers
