PHP installed as CGI not as apache module ?

Recommended Posts

In simple terms:

An Apache module means that php is built into Apache itself and is handled as part of the request.

CGI processors are separate from Apache. A request made to Apache for a file ending in *.php would be passed to the php interpreter and executed, its output then returned to Apache.

In short, a module is allot faster, but as cgi you have the flexibility of being able to make configuration changes without the need to restart the web server.
