Description Function

I have several tables to store different options, in my client table I store the tblname_ID in the tblclient.  When I want to display the client table in a list I can do this however I get the tblname_ID's and not the desctriptions, does someone have a function already that will read the values into an multi-dimentional array and display the description and not the tblname_ID.
