Problem with PDFlib / lineto function, PHP5

I'm attempting to get horizontal line drawing working in a pdf-generator script I've written.
All the documentation I seem to find refers to this method:

PDF_lineto($pdf, x, y);

I'm unable to get any functions to work this way in my script, so I've been using (successfully till now):

$p->whatever(whatever);

the line  $p->lineto(20,200);  for example, produces the following error:

PDFlib exception occurred in View Proof: [2100] : Function must not be called in 'path' scope

i've tried this about a dozen different ways to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Nevermind, found the problem. Wasn't using moveto first, then stroke.
