Help! can no longer connect to MySQL

Recommended Posts

;D I installed mysql-standard-5.0.22-osx10.4 a while ago and successfully connected and was able to create databases.

??? I tried today, but this is the message I received: ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

Previously, I connected to MySQL by simply typing /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql -uroot

I've also tried: /usr/local/bin/mysql -uroot

I hope my error is blindingly obvious to someone... PLEASE HELP!
