Is there some sort of application I can install, that will parse my php, so I can check it without having to upload it to my server?
Is the only way to install a server on my desktop pc, or do I have other options?

How do you guys check your code?

I usually just upload it to my server, but you can get an IDE, although I've never tried it that way.

a very easy server to use is xampp, which has a sourceforge at http://www.sourcefor.../projects/xampp

that has an installer and everything, so it's really easy to use.

doesn't have much system load.

I used to use it.
fuck it or fight it

I use XAMPP whenever I develop locally.  Very easy to set up and get running in a few minutes.
