access denied to user@localhost

hi gurus,
i am new to mysql. my problem is that i am getting this error and i need to resolve it as soon as possible.
if i try to do some operation thru my front end(using PHP) , i am getting the error which says
my site is hosted over linux server which is giving me access to mysql thru a socket connection.

any one having idea to resolve this ?
would be very greatfull to the helper. ?

i am also new to mysql, i also got the same error while accesing thru PHP. i solved it by setting the root password. hav u set the root password to mysql.

Just sounds like a credentials issue, provided the server itself is set up correctly.
Seriously... if people don't start reading this before posting, I'm going to consider not answering at all.
