kernel OS

Probably not a completely accurate count considering the entire source tree might not necessarily be considered the "kernel" but your question is itself pretty vague anyway.

Ok let me try again.

What is a kernel exactly in an OS?

Is a kernel a bunch of files or just one file like in Windows kernel.dll?

I'm a web developer but I have an idea that is a core.  I want to know exactly of maybe a software programmer professional or some experienced IT.

The point is that all I read about it is talking just about the word "kernel" but I want to know accurately.

Thanks for your replies!

Kind Regards!
