i am looking for a tutorial on adding a scrambled text image authentication system to my web site.

where you have to enter the displayed warped letter/numbers in order to submit a form.

can anyone point me in the right direction?

Try Googling for 'captcha'. That'll give you plenty of information to choose from.

Do you mean something like my sig which applies a linear horizontal skew and a sinusoidal vertical skew.
If you are still using mysql_ functions, STOP! Use mysqli_ or PDO. The longer you leave it the more you will have to rewrite.
