mysql query error

This is my php code

Code:

$sql = "SELECT * FROM employment_resume WHERE delete=1 ORDER BY last_name ASC"; 

 

 

and the error I'm receiving is:

 

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'delete='1' ORDER BY last_name ASC' at line 1

 

any help would great.

DELETE is a mysql reserved word, therefor is a command to mysql, if you wish to call a column name one of mysql reserved words then you need to know how to stop mysql using the command word and not just a column name. a list of all mysql <a href="http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/reserved-words.html"> RESERVED WORDS </a> are here for future reference
