Return in function

Recommended Posts

function Adding($number) {
$number = $number+5;
return $number;
}
<br>
$number = 5;
$newnumber = Adding($number);
<br>
echo "$newnumber";

I was reading this tutorial but I never understood why and what return does. and why place the variable statement after this?

Quick Example

<?php
echo "Hello ";
echo MakeBold("World");

function MakeBold($foo)
{
$foo = "<b>".$foo."</b>";
return $foo;
}
?>

So when MakeBold is called the variable "World" is sent to the function..

the function does it stuff (add < b> to the starr and < /b> to the end) then returns the value back to where it was called from.

make sense ?
