Image Linking

Does hotlinking to a file update the last access time of a image. Say, there is a file on a server somewhere and I hot link to the image, and then someone accesses the page that image is on, does that update the last accessed time of that image?

Thanks in advance.

Ok, let me ask it a different way...

How would I check to see what request is coming into the server... i.e. if it is a image request or a page request???

Please help... I'm new to this PHP thing, but I'm trying to learn.

So there is no way of telling when someone has accessed a file via a hotlink?
