how do i select the last field of a mysql table ?

I assume you mean 'last' record.  If so, the answer is "it depends".

 

Highest auto-increment id, latest date, etc.  The key is your query where you should SELECT ... FROM tablename WHERE {optional condition} ORDER by [some_field_name} DESC LIMIT 1

#count row
$query = mysql_query("Select count(field_name) from tbl_name");
$row = mysql_num_rows($query);

#get last field
$query = mysql_query("Select field_name from tbl_name LIMIT '$row' , 1");
$row = mysql_num_rows($query);

 

I dont know if it right... hahaha
