set content-type to xml

I'm using php to create xml content with header("Content-type: text/xml"); but it isn't working. I've been seraching for an answer and the closest I've come is some mention that I should check the server configuration. Could it be something with Apache or am I missing something else?

UPDATE:
Okay, so nevermind... I switched to header("Content-type: application/xml"); and it's working fine.
