Would it be reasonably secure simply to have a regular connection but encrypt only the the sensitive information using HTTP_Encrypt or something of that nature? In fact, when uploading large images (18MB), there seems to be very little difference in upload speed between HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP. I just thought I would mention this in case it helps somebody out.
