And while I shunned the idea of writing a custom shopping cart when I was advised to, it's actually a lot simpler (for me anyway) to write my own than customise OS Commerce. So I suppose I've come full circle, and now I'm advising you - write your own. I hope that doesn't come across as unhelpful.
