Is there a way to automatically make a background image 100% the width of the user's screen?

if you find a way let me know, i always have to use a script to reload the screen upon the size diffrence and reset it to 100%

There is a way, but that's in CSS3; so basically, in a decade or so, then yeah, there is a way.

If you have a graphic that can seamlessly tile, then, YES, it can be a 100% screen width (and height) background.

Hmm.. nope i meant so that it stretches the image.  Not tile.

no there is no solution to your problem with just css...

 

you can set a background colour as well as an image - this can create some nice effects if you have a couple of sides of your image that are the same colour...

 

if you could provide and example of what you want then that would help enourmously...
