strange php problem

Using a IIS server.
It is set to recognize php extenstions.php, .phtml

if i just type in the url <server document root>/my.phtml,
the php is executed.

but in the web app enviroment it is called from a javascript function,
and there the html dialog appears but the php is not executed.

would appreciate any help/hint where to look

yes try the apache (or iis if it uses thst) configuration on the server
