I thought I read the other day that because of the amount of changes in Laravel 4.3 it was being pushed out as Laravel 5?

If you're willing to code this yourself, you could write a plugin that detects the play button being clicked. This part would most definately be javascript. You could then use ajax to send this click to a php script which updates the count. I'm not well versed in created wordpress plugins but it sounds like a good project.

That's the whole point. I'm looking for new software to experiment with. It is a strange thing but I feel I'm in a rut by using all the same software and really want to get out of it and see what else there is that people recommend

phpStorm with Darcula. or on occasions "Vibrant Ink" with Zend Studio.

I've used a few frameworks in my time and I've found the best one to be Laravel but that's my personal opinion. Also, @trq I'm getting the feeling you really dislike CI. Good job
