  1. Hi all, I am being approached by a software firm for doing some freelancing work in PHP-MySql. I don't know how do I charge them. Can you guys help me in estimating that? I am from India and have 4 years experience in PHP-MySql. Which is the best way to estimate the price? If it is hourly rate, how much rate should I quote? I don't know what are the rates for a person having four years experience. If anybody from India can he suggest a rate in Indian Rupees? Basically, I want to know the estimation techniques from Indian perspective. Thanks for the help in advance Thanks and Regards Rahul
  2. Hi! I am a PHP developer from India having experience of 3.5 years in PHP/MySql/Ajax. I am willing to start doing freelancing PHP projects from home. To get started properly, I am doing some initial preperatory work before I actually start looking for projects. In the same regards, I have some very basic queries about starting a freelancing business (especially in India). I have asked quite a few queries, but I would be really thankful to you guys if you can provide answers to those. Also, if somebody from India can share his/her experience, it would be really helpful to me. 1>What precautions should I must take before committing to do any     work? 2>On an average what are the hourly rates for a developer with   experience of 3.5 years? Though I understand that it can be very   relative, still what should be the lower limit that I must get? I am   asking this to prevent myself being undercharged because of lack   of information. 3>How can I receive payments for my projects in India from abroad? 4>Which is the best strategy to accept payments from clients since   clients may cheat you and you cannot do anything for it because   they are abroad. (By strategy I mean for eg. delivering half work   and expect half payment or delivering full work and then expect   full payment etc.) 5>With popular payment gateways, such as Paypal etc. on average     how many days it takes to actually receive the money in your     bank? 6>Which is the best payment gateway for receiving money in india? 7>If I wish not to use credit card for transactions, is it possible? 8>How much % of money is normally lost in transaction charges   and currency conversions? 9>If clients delegate the responsibility of hosting the site,   which is a good web hosting provider? Thanks!
  3. Hi, This may seem a very silly question but, I am not able to create a new post or reply to a post only in freelancing forum. However, in other forums I can do that. What do I need to do so that I can reply to messages or create messages in freelancing forum? If this is not the right forum to ask this question, kindly let me know in which forum I should ask this? Thanks and Regards Rahul
  4. Hi, That's one of the drawbacks of Ajax. Whenever you send any data with xmlhttprequest object, it's automatically converted into UTF-8 and when received it's UTF-8 encoded. I had a similar problem. I feel there is no solution to it than again converting it to your desired encoding via PHP. On MSDN I had read that Microsoft is thinking of resolving this issue in future release of IE. Let's see when it happens Regards Rahul
  5. hi, I am not too sure, but I feel you are using prototype. If you are sure about the way that javascript class is written, are you also sure that Ajax.Request can take a Javascript class as it's callback function(?)?
  6. hi, You can use standard DOM methods for adding elements into the page. I feel, using innerHTML shouldn't be a preferred way. Instead, use document.createElement(IFRAME) and document.divname.appendChild(varname). For eg. to add a iframe dynamically in a page on a button click, see following function. To the function I am passing the id of the div to which the frame will be appended. function addIFrame(divid) { var newiframe=document.createElement(IFRAME); //IFRAME without quotes newiframe.id="iframe1"; newiframe.src="http://www.google.co.in"; //replcace as required div1=document.getElementById(divid); div1.appendChild(newiframe); }
