TL;DR - Hi, I'm Tom, from the UK, and very new to PHP. Now the longer version: I'm Tom, from the UK. Doing a distance learning degree and have signed up for a module starting in September which covers PHP (as well as things like MySQL, Javascript...). I've figured I may as well get a bit of precourse reading done for a few reasons: According to people who have completed the module in the past, it's a bit of a whirlwind visit, where you have to learn everything required for the course in a fortnight. If I've already got some knowledge, this should be a big help. If the entire section is taught in two weeks, it's probably not going to go into it in that much depth. My view is, if you're going to learn something, you might as well do it to a reasonable degree. I might never get to a professional level, but I'd like to be at least reasonably competent - something that will certainly take more than two weeks. I enjoy learning. So I bought this book a couple of weeks ago and working my way through that as a starting point. Currently getting my head around classes and the point of static methods! And that's my entire knowledge of PHP to date.
