Image Database and Thumbnails

Hi there, I'm looking to create a website for holding and viewing photos that have been uploaded to it.

I have created the "Upload" section and also a view screen, but i am having to create a thumbnail for each image.

Is there anyway of creating a thumbnail automatically or viewing the image in a reduced size (file/memory size)?
