  1. Thanks, that was a very influencial read. There is no doubt in my mind that my manager is an idiot in fact he is the reason I'm by myself in the position I am in now. There is usally two people in my role, one to write documentation and one developer which is me. Our documentor just quit so I'm handling 20+ sites, programming 5, programming 2 applications for the business itself, and manging web design customers as well. IMO, way too much work for 14 bucks an hour...
  2. sukip....not really catchy, not even spellable and a rip off of digg hmmm and it seems more like an advertisement then an actual beta test......hmmm....
  3. Bottom line is this I suppose. Me personally my goal is to get into video game development. I also have a thirst for knowledge and school helps quench that thirst as well as present new challenges and further myself as a individual. Is it possible to get somewhere without a degree, hell yes. However with the programming field being so overrun these days it's good to have paper and experience on your side. Besides it couldn't hurt either way haha.

  5. I have considered certifications and with my 2 year A.S. degree I can take the test for 5 different certifications so I have thought of that. I am also willing to move but right now with my mother just going through a kidney transplant, I'm not apt to move away so quickly. The whole paper vs experience thing could go on forever but let me say this, many of times has someone else gotten the job over me due to the paper and the exp where I just have the exp. The paper shows drive, and diligence to pursue something and companies look at that as well. My step-dad was a programmer for IBM and lost him job after 30 years because the people taking his place had paper and he didn't so to me it's important in more then one way.
  6. They don't offer night classes here, plus I plan on going to a 4 year university after I get my 2 year degree so I don't want to be in school till i'm 35 haha.
  7. I know the hard part is going to be juggling the two. Work here is very stressful..I handle everything from sales, to scope and high-level document writing, to debugging, to writing brand new applications, to designing websites, managing sites, the list goes on....That's why I'm debating just working and paying off my unecessary bills and then put in my two weeks here and focus on school full time. If I need to later on I can get a small part time job.
  8. Well I didn't mean literally tell him to f off, I'm not that stupid When I left that job I gave them a month's notice that I was going back to school, and they toss me work all the time. But every single person there said they were proud of me for going back to school. If this guy's boss is saying he should put work before his degree, and they're not even paying him a decent salary, it's time for the figurative f-off. While I personally think work experience is more valuable than the degree, there's no value in working for too little pay for a boss with expectations you won't meet. So I say find a job that will pay better while you finish school, if you really want to finish. (I'm having trouble with it myself, but it's worth it to me because it's a personal goal - and statistically you can get higher pay with a degree. But a lot of employers really don't care - the smaller the company the less important the degrees are.) Sorry for the delay in response but I'm at work haha. Too me it's not just about the paper, I love to learn new things about IT in general and I'm really interested in programming. I have an insensationable desire to learn and that's why I go to school. I would love to be able to just give my two weeks notice however I have a house I pay rent on as well as other things. Jacksonville, Florida is a really hard place to find programming work. IF anybody has any ideas I am more then willing to listen, as this is the real reason why I posted this thread.....I NEED HELP PS> Another thing is I have a pretty good track record...for me being 21 I've worked 3 tech jobs, programmed 5 applications, 1 in flash and managed at least 4 servers (unix and windows.) I just want the paper to be able to backup what I've already done.
  9. Okay I'm going to try to do this without seeming like I'm ranting but it's going to be hard . So yesterday, my manager pulls me into the office to tell me that I am doing good work, and the last application I developed for them was great for the amount of time I had to do it blah blah blah. Then he proceeds to tell me he was giving me a .50 cent raise, I'm like wohoo (very dryly). So then he proceeds to ask me what my priorities are.....so I replied "well I've invested a lot of time and money into college and I want to pursue my degree so that is my top priority right now." What he replied next shocked me, he said "well I have issues with that," so I replied "Oh really?" and then he proceeds to explain that school is a waste of time and that the paper I will get from it is useless. Now I don't want to offend anyone, I know that you can get a good paying job without a degree but to me it's a sense of completition and accomplishment. So he basically asked me if I was planning on moving up in the company. Now moving up in my company means keeping your 14.00 an hour position and moving to a new department. So I basically told him that I don't know what the future holds and I cannot say one way or the other. What do you guys think, it's a tough predicament, I don't want to loose my job but I don't want to have to deal with idiots like these running the company.
  10. The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny is great. I've been listening to Lemon Demon for a little over a year. When I was a DJ at dndradio.com I would have that song requested like 4x a day. =)
  11. Sorry I changed the location due to new implications of features.  I haven't added unload session refreshing yet.  My current dilemma is refreshing and onunload.  With the unload handler it will activate everytime the page leaves (meaning refreshes are affected.)  I need to make it so when the window is closed it destroys the session and logs the user out.  However I want people to be able to refresh so what I think I'm going to do is add a refresh option to the chat room. PS> The text editor was being used for a chat room so it's no longer just a text editor.  It is a chat room via AJAX / PHP and has some features you would find in IRC like /nick and /whois and /w.
  12. Ted: He just wants to check the security of his site and Obisidian detected that his site was susceptible to XSS Hijacking. Fully preventing XSS hijacking is almost impossible. If you have some type of proxy software that can intercept the request theres no way really around that. Generally though if you use GET request you are going to be hit more often that is for sure.
  13. Well I've signed up and began playing, I will give you a review when I have about 1 day's worth of playing under my belt.
  14. Take it into consideration though, about 95% use XSS hijacking methods for GET methods, so if your using POST methods you should be okay. Also if you store your session variables without using cookies that helps too. I won't go into too much detail as this is not a hacking forum, if you want more of that check out the cult of the dead cow =P.
  15. Bottomline, no matter what you do your site will always be able to be hacked. The object is to just make it so the crack kids don't sneak in.
