[File function]

I need to compare the line obtained from the file() function with another line. Bcoz of newline(could be) , I m getting no match. How can I get rid of newline from the end? :-\

I am a newbie in php.
Could you please tell me how to eliminate html from php code.
I have seen templates as used in phpbb but dont understand how it works.
Currently i am embedding html code in php and i know that to be very inefficient.
