  1. I actually had $headers = 'From: $email'; initially and it didn't work either. Single quotes OR double quotes got same result
  2. Not sure exactly what my problem is here, but i have looked at this at least a hundred times and I just can't figure out what is going on. Everything works great except for the sending the email part. It displays the error "There was a problem sending the mail". The form field checking works fine, the insert into mysql works fine - - but it won't send the email. I have tried using double quotes and single quotes for the email information ($to, $subject, etc...) I have even eliminated the form data from the email information and it still doesn't send. I am hopelessly stuck at this point Any ideas?? Code below: <html> <body bgcolor = 'blue'> <div align = 'center'> <h1>test FORM</h1> </div> <p> <?php If ($_POST['submit']) //if the Submit button pressed { //collect form data $fname = $_POST['FName']; $lname = $_POST['LName']; $email = $_POST['Email']; $tel = $_POST['Tel']; $mess = $_POST['Mess']; $errorstring = ""; if (!$fname) $errorstring = $errorstring."First Name<br>"; if (!$lname) $errorstring = $errorstring."Last Name<br>"; if (!$email) $errorstring = $errorstring."Email<br>"; if ($errorstring !="") echo "<div align = 'center'><b>Please fill out the following fields:</b><br><font color = 'red'><b>$errorstring</b></font></div>"; else { $fname = mysql_real_escape_string($fname); $lname = mysql_real_escape_string($lname); $email = mysql_real_escape_string($email); $tel = mysql_real_escape_string($tel); $mess = mysql_real_escape_string($mess); $con = mysql_connect("localhost","user","password"); if (!$con) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("mec", $con); $sql="INSERT INTO formtest (FName, LName, Title, Tel, Email, Mess) VALUES ('$fname','$lname','$title','$tel','$email','$mess')"; if (!mysql_query($sql,$con)) { die('Error: ' . mysql_error()); } $to = 'myemailaddress'; $subject = 'test form'; $message = 'Hello'; $headers = 'From Me'; $sent = mail($to, $subject, $message, $headers); if($sent) {print "Email successfully sent";} else {print "There was an error sending the mail";} mysql_close($con); } } ?> <p> <form action= 'testmecform.php' method= 'POST'> <table width = '640' border = '0' align = 'center'> <tr> <td align = 'right'><b>First Name</b></td> <td><input type = 'text' name = 'FName' value = '<?php echo $fname; ?>' size = '25'></td> <td><div align = 'right'><b>Telephone</b></div></td> <td><input type = 'text' name = 'Tel' value = '<?php echo $tel; ?>' size = '25'></td> </tr> <tr> <td align = 'right'><b>Last Name</b></td> <td><input type = 'text' name = 'LName' value = '<?php echo $lname; ?>' size = '25'></td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align = 'right'><b>Email</b></td> <td><input type = 'text' name = 'Email' value = '<?php echo $email; ?>' size = '25'></td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <th colspan = '4'><b>Please enter any additional information here:</b></th> </tr> <tr> <th colspan = '4'><textarea name = 'Mess' cols = '50' rows = '10'><?php echo $mess; ?></textarea></th> </tr> <tr> <th colspan = '4'><b>Please make sure all information is correct before submitting</b></th> </tr> <tr> <th colspan = '4'><input type = 'submit' name = 'submit' value = 'Submit Form'></th> </tr> </table> </form> </body> </html>
  3. This issue was resolved on another forum, but I figured I should post the solution here as well for anyone else who runs into this same problem. It all amounts to case-sensitivity, whereas in one section of code I have capital letters in the variable name, and lower-case in another section. I looked at this at least 2 dozen times and didn't catch it. This is where having another set of eyes (or many sets hehe) can spot a problem that is right in front of our nose Thanks to all who replied with tips and/or suggestions! The actual forum post link is here: http://www.daniweb.com/forums/post1326332.html#post1326332
  4. I haven't had a chance to make these changes yet, but I will work it in this evening. Any idea about why the email doesn't send??
  5. Our server is Windows Server 2003 with IIS 7. Yes, I know that the mail works because I tested it. I think I just have typical newbie mistakes in my code, but since I am new to php, I haven't yet figured out what those are
  6. So you are saying that I should declare ALL my form post items as variables in this manner *$Fname = addslashes($_POST['Fname']);* for better security? OK. I will work on this later this evening and get back to you. Thanks.
  7. I have a form on our website that a user can fill out for custom product. I want the form data to be 1) stored into a mysql database AND after storing said data, 2) email the same data to our sales department. 1) The form data DOES get stored into mysql database (except for the first two fields, for some weird reason) 2) I added a "mail" section to the php file that stores the data into the database, but it is not working correctly. I have stripped the email portion down to sending just one of the fields in the "message" to make it easier for troubleshooting I have included here, both the form section of the html file, and the formdata.php file that processes the data for your analysis. I am relatively new to php so there are going to be some issues with security, but I can work on those after I get the store & email process to work correctly. Please review my code and see if anyone can be of assistance. I looked through the forums and couldn't find another issue that was the same as mine. If I just overlooked, please tell me the thread post #. Thanks THE FORM WHICH COLLECTS THE DATA ******************************* <form method=POST action=formdata.php> <table width="640" border=0 align="center"> <tr> <td align=right><b>First Name</b></td> <td><input type=text name=FName size=25></td> <td><div align="right"><b>Telephone</b></div></td> <td><input type=text name=Tel size=25></td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right><b>Last Name</b></td> <td><input type=text name=LName size=25></td> <td><div align="right"><b>Fax</b></div></td> <td><input type=text name=Fax size=25></td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right><b>Title</b></td> <td><input type=text name=Title size=25></td> <td><div align="right"><b>Email</b></div></td> <td><input type=text name=Email size=50></td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right><b>Company</b></td> <td><input type=text name=Comp size=25></td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right><b>Address</b></td> <td><input type=text name=Addr size=25></td> <td><div align="right"><b>Estimated Annual Volume</b></div></td> <td><input type=text name=EAV size=25></td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right><b>City</b></td> <td><input type=text name=City size=25></td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right><b>State/Province</b></td> <td><input type=text name=SProv size=25></td> <td><div align="right"><b>Application</b></div></td> <td><input type=text name=Appl size=25></td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right><b>Country</b></td> <td><input type=text name=Ctry size=25></td> <td><div align="right"><b>Type of System</b></div></td> <td><input type=text name=Syst size=25></td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right><b>Zip/Postal Code</b></td> <td><input type=text name=ZPC size=25></td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right> </td> <td><div align="right"><strong><font color="#FFFF00" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">COIL DESIGN</font></strong></div></td> <td><font color="#FFFF00" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><strong>PARAMETERS</strong></font></td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right><b>Primary Resistance (ohms)</b></td> <td><input type=text name=Pres size=25></td> <td><div align="right"><b>Primary Inductance (mH)</b></div></td> <td><input type=text name=Pind size=25></td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right><b>Secondary Resistance (ohms)</b></td> <td><input type=text name=Sres size=25></td> <td><div align="right"><b>Secondary Inductance (H)</b></div></td> <td><input type=text name=Sind size=25></td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right><b>Peak Operating Current (Amps)</b></td> <td><input type=text name=POC size=25></td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right><b>Output Energy (mJ)</b></td> <td><input type=text name=Egy size=25></td> <td><div align="right"><b>Output Voltage (kV)</b></div></td> <td><input type=text name=Volt size=25></td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right><b># HV Towers per Coil</b></td> <td><input type=text name=TPC size=25></td> <td><div align="right"><b># of Coils per Package</b></div></td> <td><input type=text name=CPP size=25></td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align=right> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <th colspan=4><b>Please enter any additional information here:</b></th> </tr> <tr> <th colspan=4><textarea name=Mess cols=50 rows=10 id="Message"></textarea></th> </tr> </table> </dl> <div align="center"> <p> <input type=hidden name=BodyTag value="<body bgcolor="#484589" text="#FFFFFF" link="#FFFF00" alink="#FFFFFF" vlink="#FF7F00">"> <input type=hidden name=FA value=SendMail> </p> <p><font color="#FFFF00" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><strong>PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL INFORMATION<br> IS CORRECT BEFORE SUBMITTING</strong></font></p> <p> <input type=submit value="Submit Form"> </p> </div> </form> THE FILE THAT PROCESSES THE FORM DATA (formdata.php) *********************************************** <?php $con = mysql_connect("localhost","XXX","XXX");   8. My 'graph.php" looks exactly like yours: <?php header("Content-type: image/png"); //Include phpMyGraph5.0.php include_once('phpMyGraph5.0.php'); //Set config directives $cfg['title'] = 'Example graph'; $cfg['width'] = 500; $cfg['height'] = 250; //Set data $data = array( 'Jan' => 12, 'Feb' => 25, 'Mar' => 0, 'Apr' => 7, 'May' => 80, 'Jun' => 67, 'Jul' => 45, 'Aug' => 66, 'Sep' => 23, 'Oct' => 23, 'Nov' => 78, 'Dec' => 23 ); //Create phpMyGraph instance $graph = new phpMyGraph(); //Parse $graph->parseHorizontalSimpleColumnGraph($data, $cfg); ?> And my "graph.html" looks like: <html> <head> <title>GRAPH</title> </head> <body> <img src="graph.php"> </body> </html> Any ideas?? All 3 files (phpMyGraph5.0.php, graph.php, graph.html) are located in /var/www. Is this the correct place for them to be??
  9. Initially, I just had the "graph.php" file and was trying to display that with my browser: (http://www.somewebsiteblahblah.com/graph.php). After reading your post, I created a basic blank html and between the <body> and </body> I put the <img src="graph.php">. I saved this as graph.html. When I tried to display the graph.html in my browser: (http://www.somewebsiteblahblah.com/graph.html), all I get is a "broken image" icon in the top left corner. Should I post my "graph.html" and "graph.php" files here for someone to look at? At this point I have no clue why it doesn't work. I am not very good yet with php, but am learning.
  10. I just downloaded phpMyGraph version 5. Not really much documentation on this other than how to create graphs. For installation, I installed the phpMyGraph.5.0.php in my /var/www and copy/pasted one of the examples from the website to make an example graph. All I get is weird text taking up the whole page. Both the phpMyGraph.5.0.php and examplegraph.php are located in /var/www. Anyone know if this is correct? Any answer on how to actually get a graph to display rather than a page full of random characters??? Their "user forum" had one answer for this and it doesn't work. see here: http://phpclasses.elib.com/discuss/package/4636/thread/1/ Anyone who has ever used this can probably solve my problem. Any help appreciated
  11. it all comes down to the use of "forward slashes" or "back slashes". In the "php.ini" file, the location of the extension directory on my server is C:\php\ext\. The "correct" location is C:/php/ext/. Don't know why, as I am using Windows XP Pro, IIS 5.1
  12. I am trying to install and use phpMyAdmin. I already have MySQL and php installed. php works fine, but I haven't tried to create a database with mysql as of yet. I was curious about phpmyadmin. when i run the setup for phpmyadmin, i get the following error: "Cannot load mysql extension. Please check your ph configuration." I eneabled both the mysql.dll and mysqli.dll in php.ini, so i don't understand what the problem is. Can someone help? I will tell you more info if you need it - thanks in advance!
