This tells you what to look for. PHP Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in e:\Domains\mypubspace.com\wwwroot\fb\client\facebook.php on line 37 Parse Error ... you are lacking a close bracket

Yes. SELECT * FROM table WHERE ID != variable; or SELECT * FROM table1 WHERE ID NOT IN (SELECT * FROM table2) .... and many more

Wrong. FF supports Marquee even NS. Haven't tried on Safari,BB,IPhone...and other devices though.

Guess I'll need help on CSS again. ??? I have this basic conceptual layout. #sortable_list { BACKGROUND: #FFFFFF; } #sortable_list LI { DISPLAY: INLINE; } #sortable_list UL LI DIV { WIDTH: 150PX; DISPLAY: INLINE; } <UL ID=sortable_list> <LI ID=Row> <UL CLASS=Header> <LI CLASS=tblHead_left> head 1 </LI> <LI CLASS=tblHead> head 2 </LI> <LI CLASS=tblHead_right> head 3 </LI> </UL> </LI> <LI ID=Row> <UL> <LI> Item 1-A </LI> <LI> Item 2-A </LI> <LI> Item 3-A </LI> </UL> </LI> <LI ID=Row> <UL> <LI> Item 1-B </LI> <LI> Item 2-B </LI> <LI> Item 3-B </LI> </UL> </LI> </UL> Im trying to control the list item's width but end up in vain. Thank you

Thanks for the replies. From the looks of it I'm not going outside my router if I access it from the same machine. It like when you do a tracert of your own machine it will never get out. Im working on the network configuration as it seems to be the real cause.

Nope it didn't work for me. here is the 2 conf files. httpd.conf # # Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool. # # This is the main Apache server configuration file. It contains the # configuration directives that give the server its instructions. # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/> for detailed information about # the directives. # # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure # consult the online docs. You have been warned. # # The configuration directives are grouped into three basic sections: # 1. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a # whole (the 'global environment'). # 2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server, # which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host. # These directives also provide default values for the settings # of all virtual hosts. # 3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to # different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the # same Apache server process. # # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log" # with ServerRoot set to "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2" will be interpreted by the # server as "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/logs/foo.log". # # NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes # instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache"). # If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which Apache.exe is located # will be used by default. It is recommended that you always supply # an explicit drive letter in absolute paths, however, to avoid # confusion. # ### Section 1: Global Environment # # The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache, # such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it # can find its configuration files. # # # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's # configuration, error, and log files are kept. # # NOTE! If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network) # mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation (available # at <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mpm_common.html#lockfile>); # you will save yourself a lot of trouble. # # Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path. # ServerRoot "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2" # # ScoreBoardFile: File used to store internal server process information. # If unspecified (the default), the scoreboard will be stored in an # anonymous shared memory segment, and will be unavailable to third-party # applications. # If specified, ensure that no two invocations of Apache share the same # scoreboard file. The scoreboard file MUST BE STORED ON A LOCAL DISK. # ScoreBoardFile logs/apache_runtime_status # # PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process # identification number when it starts. # PidFile logs/httpd.pid # # Timeout: The number of seconds before receives and sends time out. # Timeout 500 # # KeepAlive: Whether or not to allow persistent connections (more than # one request per connection). Set to "Off" to deactivate. # KeepAlive on # # MaxKeepAliveRequests: The maximum number of requests to allow # during a persistent connection. Set to 0 to allow an unlimited amount. # We recommend you leave this number high, for maximum performance. # MaxKeepAliveRequests 5 # # KeepAliveTimeout: Number of seconds to wait for the next request from the # same client on the same connection. # KeepAliveTimeout 15 ## ## Server-Pool Size Regulation (MPM specific) ## # WinNT MPM # ThreadsPerChild: constant number of worker threads in the server process # MaxRequestsPerChild: maximum number of requests a server process serves <IfModule mpm_winnt.c> ThreadsPerChild 250 MaxRequestsPerChild 0 </IfModule> # # Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or # ports, instead of the default. [SOLVED] 2 includes carrying layout but creates blankness
wsantos replied to thefollower's topic in PHP Coding Help
Nope, thats what I have been saying... the html path to the file is different than the php path you have to define. if your linking to the file in HTML then yes /css/layout1.php will be correct for all files no matter where they live. But in PHP a file in /folder1/folder2/file.php cannot use the same path as a file that lives in the root /file.php /file.php would find the include calling it the way you did, but /folder1/folder2/file.php will not find the path as it will start looking in /folder1/folder2/<begin looking here> Nate I concur -
[SOLVED] 2 includes carrying layout but creates blankness

Ok ... I think christer is correct. You are not getting the right file on your include. I run your script and gave me this output. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title></title> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/css/thefile.css" /> </head> <body> <div id="top"> //stuff </div> <div id="wrapper"> <div id="topheader"> <div id="barholder"> //stuff </div> </div> <div id="midheader"> //stuff </div> <div id="botheader"> //stuff </div> <div id="leftcolumn"> <div id="leftcontent"> //stuff </div> </div> <div id="centercolumn"> <div id="centercontent"> <center>test </center> <p> </p> </div> </div> <div id="rightcolumn"> <div id="rightcontent"> // stuff </div> </div> <div id="footer"> //stuff </div> </div> </body> </html> -

Have you considered using templates instead of rough include? Nevertheless, what is the output? is it blank screen or just improperly laid out info? -
[SOLVED] 2 includes carrying layout but creates blankness
wsantos replied to thefollower's topic in PHP Coding Help
It doesn't matter. I always use capital.. and to double check i used non capital and its the same ... ive used capital through out my site. wow that confused me...always thought php as case sensitive -
Ok.already talked to my ISP provider and had them open my port 80. I can now reach the apache test page externally but encountered more weird scenario. 1. When I access the dns from my machine I got search result as if I searched it through google or other search engines but I can access it from other machines. 2. I modified httpd.conf to point to the document root and directory to a path on the machine. Accessing it locally, via the computer name I can reach it with no issues. But accessing it from other machines still gave me the apache test page. I believe it was cached so i cleared everything ... cookies, temp file, session, etc. After doing so I got a page cannot be displayed message. So I'm guessing I haven't configured the file correctly. Any more tips on this? ... Also I switched to XAMPP.

exit(); Do you really want to exit?

Does anybody know if bellsouth blocks port 80? If so is there a walk around this? Status: I have a static IP pointing to my modem/router. (WESTELL E0-610030-06) I have forwarded TCP(80,443) to my machine using the computer-name. I tried separating the two ports on two different service and joining them on a single service to no avail. I can access the apache test page using both the internal IP address and computer name. I turned off my firewall just for testing. I can externally access my modem/router via IP address but not via the dns. I know my DNS is pointing to my static IP via ping on the dns name which echoes my IP... Any tips appreciated.

Returning to user to their topic after creating it

Try... if (isset($_GET['topic_id'])) { $_SESSION['topic_id'] = $_GET['topic_id']; } else { if(isset($_GET['topic_name'])) { $query="select topic_id from topics where topic_name = $_GET['topic_name']"; // etc } } -
Try this... if (!$link)?die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()):echo 'Connected successfully';
