Ah well. I guess this is another excellent quirk of Microsoft Expression Web. :/ -
Annoying symbols appearing with include() function !!
indigobanana posted a topic in PHP Coding Help
Hello, This is a fairly basic question, and it seems as if it should be easy to solve, but on about 75% of my pages on Indigo Banana, i get the symbols and sometimes appearing at the top of the page in FireFox 3. IE7 seems to be unaffected. However, on the MIDI City the problem is even worse, with appearing on most pages on FireFox 3 and a really annoying gap and a box or some kind of unselectable dash character appearing in the view source of IE7. It goes away when i remove include("dbconnect.php"), however if I open dbconnect.php by itself no symbols appear, making me think that it has something to do with the include() function. I have tried require() as well, with the same results. It is really annoying me... and seems to affect random pages, with some on FireFox and others on IE7. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Jamie -
Thanks redarrow! Which screenshot do you mean? The screenshots of websites i have designed on the web design portfolio were done using Print Screen and cropping/resizing in texture maker (although im sure many programs can do that!)

There are some nice free PNG icons at http://www.iconspedia.com - I've used some on my website, as an example. I know some are completely free to use, it should say on each individual icon page. I make my backgrounds/dialog backgrounds etc. with Texture Maker, it really is an excellent tool for generating seamless graphics, although its not free.

Terrible background noise on mixing desk...
indigobanana replied to indigobanana's topic in Miscellaneous
Yes it is quite a bad setup, however we're limited for power sockets... so im not sure how that can be changed. You mention radio interference... there is one wireless microphone, perhaps that has something to do with it? Although the noise still continued when i muted that channel (although i guess the wireless signal would still be transmitting) As for aliens... -
Terrible background noise on mixing desk...
indigobanana replied to indigobanana's topic in Miscellaneous
Its a standard analog mixing desk... 12 channels, cant remember the make though! It has 48v phantom power but that was definately switched off. What's making me think dirty power was it was plugged into one of them 4-way extension cables (the round ones) with the cable coiled, and 3 other things including a keyboard and an amp plugged into it. The odd thing is that through the PA system you can't hear that noise! its very odd :/ -
Hey all! I've been having a problem recording from our mixing desk, there is a really loud and constant background noise... even when every channel is turned off!! I checked the cable... its working absolutely fine. Here's a sample to show you what I mean! http://www.indigobanana.com/storage/mixingdesk-problems.mp3 Any ideas?? I do have 1 theory... perhaps its some kind of noise caused by a 'dirty' power supply? Thanks! Jamie

I didnt find the Google Ads a problem! I have to say when i first went on the website I was slightly confused as to what was going on. It would be really good if you had some kind of navigation structure or system to make this clear! The design is not bad, and follows the graffiti theme, however I do deteste Times New Roman, as it such a default font... so changing that into a different font into Arial, Tahoma, Verdana etc could be a good idea. Keep it up! Jamie

Sorry I didnt make it very clear! THis is when i run it from Apache on a server I own... completely seperate to the webhost of the MIDI City. It just such a shame it isnt working properly. :/

If i remember rightly, Onclick would still be called by selecting a checkbox/radio button with a keyboard...
-
Haha, thats true! ah well... and the font seems clear on my system, similar to arial/tahoma etc? Jamie

Okay i have tried moving the ads around a bit... i tried a horizontal ad before but the performance was absolutely terrible. So away it went. As for the file download, and quicktime (eww..), I might try out using the script, although i'm thinking about getting rid of the download links and instead streaming the mp3 in xspf flash audio player. Also, you can register as a user at http://midicity.indigobanana.com/register.html MIDI to MP3 processing is done manually at the moment, sadly I can't get the command line conversion program to run in the php exec command, it just dies (something to do with not finding a hWnd instance... far beyond my knowledge!) Anyway, thanks for your comments so far Jamie

I remember once also overwriting a PHP header file... was a weeks worth of work destroyed and my site rendered absolutely awful. it was very upsetting and took a long time to remake! -
Hi there! I havent been on PHP Freaks for years... My old account got deleted due to inactivity so I had to remake it! Ah well. I've been working on a new site called the MIDI City, using PHP, mysql, file uploads etc. Its my first venture into using PHP Classes as well (MIDI in this case, to read MIDI file data). I would really like some critique to see which areas I could improve! The URL is http://midicity.indigobanana.com/ Thanks! Jamie
